In District Court Judge Sends Woman To Prison For Year A 35-year-old Raeford woman was sentenced to twelve months in jail for drunken driving and mis demeanor hit and run during Friday's District Court Session, Judge Joseph Dupree presiding. Gloria Barefoot Currier, 504 E. Fifth Ave., Raeford, also appeared before the court on charges of driving while her license was re voked and failure to appear. The consolidated judgment called for her to be imprisoned for twelve months in the quarters provided for women by the North Carolina Department of Correction. Currier pleaded guilty to all charges. Monroe surrendered his driver's license to the clerk of court. He was ordered to follow the guidance and direction of his probation officer in regards to alcoholic rehabilitation. Monroe was fined $500 and costs. For good cause shown SI 50 of the fine was remitted. Willie Locklear, Shannon, was given a 90 day suspended sentence after he pleaded guilty to DUI. A charge of driving left of center was dismissed. Locklear was ordered to surrender his license and ordered not to drive for a period of 12 months. He was fined $150 plus costs. Locklear was granted a limited driving privilege. Steve Allen McLaughlin, P.O. Box 825, Raeford. pleaded guilty to the larceny of a box of batteries taken from Mack's Variety and Fashion, Inc. He was given a twelve month sentence, suspended for five years, and placed on probation for two years. He was cautioned not to be convicted of the crime of shoplifting, larceny, fraud, embez zlement or passing worthless checks during that time. McLaugh lin was also fined $50 plus costs. In the event that the sentence should be activated. McLauchlin will be committed as a youthful offender. Also charged with the attempted larceny of a box of batteries valued at $16.16 from Mack's, Kenneth Southerland, Rt. 1, Raeford. pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to not less than one day nor more than 12 months in the N.C. Mcintosh was sentenced to not less than one day nor more than 12 months as a youthful offender. Duwayne McNeill, Raeford. leaded guilty to an assault charge rought by Betty Ray. and was given a prayer for judgment con tinued for two years with court reserving the right to pass final judgment within that time. He was fined court costs. Belton Day. Rt. 4, Box 31. Raeford. was found not guilty of an assault charge brought by Dorothy Day. The prosecuting witness was ordered to pay court costs for frivolous and malicious prosecu tion. Prosecuting witness Rikina D re blow was ordered to pay court costs for frivolous and malicious prose cution after Harold Herbert Dre blow, Rt. 1, Raeford, was found not guilty of assault. James Thomas Hall, Jr., P.O. Box 222, Raeford, pleaded not guilty to a charge of non-support of his four week-old son. He was found guilty and sentenced to 60 days in jail, suspended for five years on the condition that he pay $20 each week toward the support of his child. For good cause shown cost was remitted. The court reserved the right to modify the judgment at anytime within five years. Neill McGeachey, Rt. 1, Shan non, was found not guilty of larceny of a motor vehicle. Freddie Wilson. Rt. 1. Box 560, Raeford, was found not guilty of larceny by trick. The verdict was delayed on a charge of possession of a controlled substance brought against Kenneth Wayne McVicker. Rt. 1, Box 177-A. Red Springs. McVicker pleaded guilty to having in his possession a marijuana cigarette. He was placed on probation for a period of two years and fined $150 plus costs. The court reserved the right to remit the fine in its entirety upon a good report from the probation officer. Laverne Freeman. 804 Saunders St.. Raeford, was found not guilty of carrying a concealed weapon after the state presented no evi dence. Jay Hottel, P.O. Box 179, Rae ford, was found not guilty of carrying a concealed weapon. James Roy McGougan, Rt. 2, Box 172 G, Raeford, pleaded guilty to a registration violation and Children's Librarian Appointed Mrs. Eileen Johnson has been named the new children's librarian for the five-county Sandhill Re gional Library System. She replaces Ms. Linda Brown who has married and moved to Raliegh. Mrs. Johnson is originally from Montana and earned her B.A. in history from the University of Montana. She received her mas ter's in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976. Her back ground includes work as a school librarian. She is now living with her husband, Lonnie, in Rocking ham. William G. Bridgman, director of libraries of the Sandhill Regional Library System, reports that as children's librarian for the system, Mrs. Johnson is responsible for planning and implementing library services for preschoolers through sixth graders in Anson, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore and Rich mond counties. Her duties range from working with librarians in each county in arranging preschool story hours and Saturday children's film programs to selection of juvenile materials. She is also available for presentation of pro grams for special children's groups and can be reached through the local county library for consultation and planning.
