[Photo bv Debbie .7/1 .Physician Welcomed Over two hundred people wel comed Dr. Ramnik Zota and his family Sunday during a reception in the afternoon at the Raeford Civic Center. The affair was hosted by the Hoke County Medical Betterment Association to give area residents a chance to meet the physician who will open his office here May 1 . The wives of the city's two doctors, Mrs. R.G. Townsend and Mrs. R.M. Jordan, assisted in pouring refreshments. Dr. Zota, a native of India and currently on the staff of McCain Hospital, will begin a family practice from offices on Campus Ave. He lives in Fayetteville with his wife Lata and their two year ? old daughter. The Hoke County Medical Bet terment Association is a non - profit group organized to recruit ? medical personnel to the county. Frank Baker is president and Wyatt Upchurch is vice - president. ? Extension Chairman Honored Wendell S. Young, Hoke County extension chairman, was honored in Raleigh Monday for 25 years of service with the N.C. Agricultural Extension Service. Young was presented a certi ficate and a tie pin by Dr. George Hyatt Jr., Extension Service director. The presentation was made during the annual conference of the Extension Service at McKimmon Extension Education Center on the North Carolina State University campus. A native of Forest City. Young was a dairy fieldman and dairy plant manager in Sparta before joining the Extension Service in Sampson County in 1953. He moved to Hoke County in 1963, when he was made county extension chairman. Young served with the U.S. ? Army in World War II. ? Sign Up For 'Roots' Response has been slow tor the genealogy class announced by the Parks and Recreation Commission and if more people don't sign up to learn their 'Roots', the class will be cancelled. The class, jointly sponsored by Sandhills Community College, will cost S5. Date and time of meeting will be announced later. For further information, contact the recreation office at 875-5603. Other traffic offenses heard included: Alvin Ray Oxendine Pembroke, transferring a license plate to another vehicle after December 31 of the year plate was issued, court costs; Bobbie Suter Robison, Fayetteville, inspection violation, court costs; Jessie Bethea, Maxton, inspection vio lation, court costs; Elvis Lorenzo Arts Council Being Eyed A citizens' meeting to discuss the formation of a local Arts Council for Raeford was scheduled Wednesday night (March 16) in the Hoke County Public Library. Jack Lesure of the N.C. Associa tion of Arts Councils Inc. was invited to address the meeting by the Chamber of Commerce. An Arts Council attempts to support and encourage artistic talents (drama, music, writing, drawing, painting, dancing, photo graphy, etc.) of citizens of every age. Many communities through out North Carolina have estab lished local Arts Councils to develop and promote the arts. Anyone who would like further information about starting a local Council may call the Chamber of Commerce office at 875-2179. Inc. announced a series of community meetings with low income residents to begin the planning process for fiscal ,vear 1977 - 78. Needs of the community will be outlined, discussed and assigned priorities in order of importance by the advisory boards of the neigh borhood centers at the meetings. The FCCS Planning Committee will determine goals and objectives based on these priorities. There will be a meeting at the South Hoke Community Center March 21 at 7:30 p.m. and at McCormick Chapel Church in Duffie on March 22 at 7:30 p.m. Army Bid Sale The public is invited to attend a local spot bid sale Thursday.
