Man Draws
Suspended Term For Assault
District Court Judge Joseph Du
pree sentenced a 22-year-old man
to a 60-day suspended term in jail
Briday after he pleaded guilty to an
assault charge.
The sentence for Ernest Levon
Parker, Jr., of Rt. 1, Box 107-A,
Red Springs, was suspended for
two years and Parker was fined S75
restitution for Patricia Goodman
Parker, who required medical at
tention after the defendant struck
her about the head and body. Also
fined court costs, Parker was
cautioned not to assault the prose
cuting witness for two years.
Mike Keilis, Rt. 1, Wagram. was
given a 30-day suspended sentence
after he pleaded guilty to assaulting
a 13-year-old boy. Keilis was
ordered to pay $27 restitution plus
costs of action.
Rudolph Singletary, 409 Wooley
Street, was given a prayer for
judgment continued after he plead
ed guilty to assaulting Sharon
McNeill. Final judgment may be
passed within three years. He was
charged court costs.
Vinson Bullard. Rt. 1. Box 661,
Red Springs, was found not guilty
of an assault with a deadly weapon
charge brought by Willie r. Jacobs.
Jacobs was ordered to pay court
costs for frivolous and malicious
prosecution.
Howard Wayne Palmer. Fayette
% ville, pleaded guilty to charges of
carrying a concealed weapon and
reckless driving and was sentenced
to 60 days in jail, suspended on the
condition that he pay a fine of $50
plus court costs.
Richard Lee Johnson, Rt. 2,
Raeford, and Joseph Melvin. also
of Rt. 2. Raeford. both pleaded
guilty to a larceny and receiving
charge involving the theft of cigar
ettes, bread, meat, beer belonging
to Alma Barefoot and valued at
SI 7. 80. The young men were
sentenced to be committed to the
custody of the Commissioner of
Correction for treatment and
supervision as committed youth
offenders for a term of not less than
one day nor more than two years.
The sentences were suspended for
five years on the condition that the
defendants not be convicted of
shoplifting, larceny, fraud, receiv
ing, embezzlement or passing
.worthless checks during that time.
They were also required to pay $10
each restitution for the prosecuting
witness, as well as fines ot $50 each
plus costs.
, Robert Michael Bergen. Fayette
ville. pleaded guilty to misdemean
or possession ot marijuana. The
judge delayed the verdict and
. placed Bergan on probation for two
years on the condition that he pay a
fine of $150 plus court costs.
Gennie Rogers. Red Springs,
pleaded guilty to shoplifting one
bottle of Kaopectate valued at
$1 .69 from the A&P and was given
a six month suspended sentence.
She was fined $25 plus costs and as
a condition of her five year suspen
1 sion she was ordered not to be
convicted of the crimes of shoplift -
; ing, larceny, fraud, embezzlement
' or passing worthless checks.
Eddie Thomas Corey, an inmate
at Sandhill Youth Center. McCain,
pleaded guilty to charges of mis
demeanor larceny and misdemean
[ or breaking and" entering and was
! sentenced to 12 months in jail, to
begin at the expiration of the
sentence currently being served,
i Barry J. Copper. Sandhill Youth
Center. McCain, pleaded guilty to
. receiving and was sentenced to 18
* months to run concurrently with
the sentence being served now.

Charles Benjamin, McCain in
mate. pleaded guilty to misde

Thomas McLauchlin. Jr.. Rt. 1,
Box 315, Shannon, withdrew his
notice of appeal Friday. McLauch
lin had been sentenced to 60 days in
jail on a larceny charge.
Bobby Lee Purcell, McCain,
pleaded no contest to a charge of
non-support brought by Naomi
Purcell. He was given a prayer for
judgment continued on the condi
tion that he pay S15 weekly for
child support. For good cause
shown, cost was remitted.
Arthur Cunningham, Wooley
St., Raeford. pleaded guilty to a
charge of non-support of an illegiti
mate child brought by Julia Chap
pell. The court found as fact that
the defendant is the father of the
child named in the warrant and
granted a prayer for judgment
continued on the condition that the
defendant pay S10 each week for
, the support of the child. For good
cause shown, court costs were

Karen McLean, Jones Avenue,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to a charge
of malicious injury to personal
property brought by Wanda
McLean. She was sentenced to 30
days in jail, suspended on the
condition that she pay S7.07 resti
tution plus court costs. McLean
was accused of injuring two pairs of
ladies' slacks.
Paul Smith, Jr., Rt. 1. Box 133,
Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to
passing two worthless checks total
ing S13 to the Little Giant Food
Mart No. 33. He was ordered to
make restitution and pay court
costs. Smith was also given a 30 day
suspended sentence.
Rebecca L. Hester, Rt. 2, Box
524, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
four counts of passing worthless
checks. On the first two checks
written to Alma Barefoot, Hester
was required to make $87.50
restitution and pay court costs. She
was given a 30 day suspended jail
term on these two counts. On the
last two checks she was again given
a 30 day suspended sentence, and
ordered to make $25 restitution to
Harrell's Grocery. Hester also paid
court costs. She was cautioned not
to be convicted of shoplifting,
fraud, larceny, embezzlement, or
passing worthless checks for three
years.
Mrs. M.B. Smith. McCain,
pleaded guilty to two charges of
passing worthless checks and was
given a prayer for judgment contin
ued with the court reserving the
right to pass judgment within three
years. She was also charged court
costs. Restitution was made prior
to trial.
Bonnie Chavis, Rt. 1, Box 335.
St. Pauls, pleaded guilty to passing
a worthless check and was sen
tenced to six months, suspended
for five years. Chavis was ordered
to pay $80 restitution for Mary
Edna Clark, 211 Truck Stop, and
costs of action.
Alfred Baker, Rt. 3, Box 148,
Raeford, was sentenced to 18
months in jail, suspended, after he
pleaded guilty to driving under the
influence of intoxicating liquor,
sixth offense, and failure to comply
with restrictions on his limited
driving privilege. Baker gave notice
of appeal.
Daniel H. Shaw, Rt. 1, Box 839,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to DUI and
was sentenced to 90 days in jail,
suspended for 12 months. Shaw
was ordered to surrender his driv
er's license to the clerk of court and
not drive except as set out in a
limited driving privilege. He was
fined $150 plus court costs.
Connie Mack Little, Farmville,
pleaded not guilty to DUI. She was
found guilty of the lesser included
charge of reckless driving after
drinking and given a 60 day
suspended sentence and fined $100
plus costs.
Horace Thomas Blake, Rt. 4.
Box 169, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
DUI and was sentenced to 90 days
in jail, suspended for 12 months,
and fined $150 plus court costs.
Blake surrendered his license and
was ordered not to drive except as
set out in a limited driving privi
lege.
Peter Nelson Dockery, P.O. Box
353, Raeford, pleaded not guilty to
DUI, and was found guilty of the
lesser included offense of reckless
driving after drinking. He was
given a 60 day suspended sentence
on the condition that he pay a SI 00
fine plus costs of action. Dockery
pleaded guilty to a charge of

Murtie Locklear, Pembroke, was
fined S500 plus court costs after he
pleaded not guilty to third offense
DUI. Locklear was sentenced to 12
months in jail, suspended for two
years, and ordered to surrender his
driver's license. He is not to drive
for 12 months, and must follow the
guidance of his probation officer in
regards to alcoholic rehabilitation.
For good cause shown $200 of the
fine was remitted.
Paul McCassey Jr., Bronx, N.Y.,
was sentenced to 90 days in jail,
suspended for 12 months, after he
leaded guilty to DUI and speeding
b in a 55 MPH zone. He was fined
SI 50 plus costs and ordered not to
drive for 12 months.
Jerry Dexter Bratcher, Rt. 1, Box
391, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
DUI and was given a 90 day
suspended sentence. He was
ordered to surrender his license for
12 months and not drive except as
set out in a limited driving privi
lege. Bratcher was fined SI 50 plus
costs.
LeRoy Sutton, Newark. N.J.,
was sentenced to six days in jail,
retroactive to time of committment,
after he pleaded guilty to public
intoxication.
John Matthew Singletary, Ri. 1,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to public
intoxication and resisting a public
officer. He was given a 90 day jail
term and credited with two days jail
pending trial.
Michael Franklin Wright, Lake
City. S.C., pleaded guilty to charg
es of transporting an open contain
er of alcoholic beverage in the
passenger area of a vehicle, driving
without being licensed, and dis
playing a license belonging to
another person. Wright was sen
tenced to six months in jail,
suspended for two years, and fined
S250plus costs. He was ordered not
to drive until properly licensed.
Addie McKoy Wilson, Rt. 4, Box
224, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone and
was given a prayer for judgment
continued on the condition that she
pay a $5 fine plus costs.
David Wilton Phillips. Greens
boro, pleaded guilty to speeding 78
in a 55 MPH zone and was
sentenced to 30 days in jail,
suspended, and fined S25 plus
court costs.
James Earl Maye, Fayetteville,
was sentenced to 30 days in jail,
suspended, after he pleaded guilty
to speeding 68 in a 55 MPH zone.

Wright, Raeford, was given a
prayer for judgment continued for
two years after he pleaded guilty to
exceeding a safe speed. He was
charged court costs.

speeding 65 in a 55 MPH zone. He
was found guilty and given a prayer
for judgment continued upon pay
ment of costs.
James Archibald Sinclair, Fay
etteville, pleaded guilty to speeding
70 in a 55 MPH zone and was fined
$15 plus court costs.

ris Ave., Raeford. pleaded guilty to
exceeding a safe speed and was
given a prayer for judgment contin
ued for two years upon payment of
court costs.

lotte, pleaded guilty to exceeding a
safe speed and was ordered to pay
court costs.
Jerry Wayne Goza, P.O. Box
516, Raeford, was given a prayer
for judgment continued for two
years upon payment of costs after
he pleaded guilty to exceeding a
safe speed.
George Purvis. Jr., Fayetteville.
pleaded guilty to exceeding a safe
speed and was ordered to pay court
costs.

sentenced to 30 days in jail,
suspended,' and fined $25 plus costs
after he pleaded guilty to speeding
76 in a 55 MPH zone.
Terry Wayne Cockman, Rock
ingham, pleaded guilty to speeding
78 in a 55 MPH zone and was
sentenced to 30 days in jail,
suspended, and fined $25 plus
court costs.
Billy Gene Pate, Red Springs,
was given a prayer for judgment
continued after he pleaded guilty to
exceeding a safe speed. Pate was
ordered to pay court costs.
Tracy Stephens. Rt. 2, Box 198,
Raeford, pleaded guilty to speeding
65 in a 55 MPH zone and was given
a prayer for judgment continued
for two years. He paid court costs.
Elwood McQueen, Jr., Fayette
ville, pleaded guilty to carrying a
concealed weapon and to speeding
65 in a 55 MPH zone. He was
sentenced to 60 days in jail,
suspended, and fined $50 plus
costs. The gun will be disposed of
according to law.
Doris McZorn Monroe, Rt. 1,
Box 292, Aberdeen, paid court
costs after she pleaded guilty to an
unsafe movement charge.
Freddie Lee McLauchlin, Rt. 3,
Box 249 C, Red Springs, pleaded
guilty to an unsafe movement
charge and was ordered to pay
court costs.
Harold Hailey, Rt. 1, Box 257,
Shannon, pleaded guilty to reckless
driving and was sentenced to 30
days in jail, suspended, and fined
$25 plus costs.
Tana Lee Locklear, Shannon,
was found not guilty of careless and
reckless driving.

pleaded guilty to driving with an
expired driver's license and was
sentenced to 30 days in jail,
suspended, and fined $25 plus
costs.

Raeford Trailer Park, pleaded
guilty to driving without a license
and was fined $25 plus costs.
Marshall Thomas Wilson, Rt. 1,
Box 560, Raeford, pleaded guilty to
driving while his license was re
voked and was sentenced to six
months in jail, suspended for two
years. He was fined $200 plus costs
and ordered not to operate a motor
vehicle until properly licensed.
