Wiggins as he talked about revolvers, bullets, nightsticks and other exciting subjects to this group of wide-eyed kindergarten youngsters from West Hoke School. The class was getting a tour of the police and fire stations as part of a field trip. If SAFETY TALK ? RaeJ'ord fireman Richard "Buster Jackson shows off the firefighter's gear and gives a safety talk to kindergarten pupils from West Hoke School. Three classes, Mrs. Upchurch's, Mrs. Home's and Miss Purcell's. visited the fire station, police station, post office and library on a field trip last Wednesday. Rockfish News by Mrs. A A. Mclnnis Attendance at Tabernacle Church was fairly good last Sunday considering whether the weather is cold or hot. people are going to the beaches all the time, and also to other places. Pittman Grove Church had very good attendance Sunday morning and evening. They are getting ready for their revival in the near future. Parker Church had a visiting minister Sunday. He was a student named Tom Melvin of Cumber land and he was also at Sandy Grove Methodist Church Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Farmer and family were a part of the large crowd who attended the celebration at Montpelier Church in Wagram last Sundav. The men from Galatia Church who attended the Men's Spring Rally at Camp Monroe Sunday were: Malcolm and Will Gillis, * Johnny and Billy Gillis, Joe and Jim Gillis. Omer Register, Thomas Ray, Eugene Shannon, the Rev. , Russell Fleming, Lewis Lindsay. Roger Hodd, Thomas Mclnnis. Eddy Newton. If any one was missed it was through mistake. Mr. and Mrs. Tracv Garner and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Fiskus visited Mrs. R.H. Gibson Sr., Sunday. Mrs. R.H. Gibson Jr., spent the weekend in Lumberton with her sister. Mrs. Inez Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Smith of Valdese was Sunday night guest of Mrs. Henry Fowler and Kathy. Mrs. R.V. Tanner spent the weekend visiting Mrs. Nancy McMillian and family in Asheboro. Mrs. Johnny Allen and Mrs. R.V. Tanner visited Mrs. J.L. Grimsley of Red Springs Tuesday. Roy Herring of Fayetteville. Lacy Herring of Miami, Fla. and Lucian Herring of Winston - Salem visited Mrs. R.H. Gibson Monda Jr., announce the birth of a son, Belton Kirk, April 21st at Cape Fear Valley Hospital. ? Mrs. A. A. Mclnnis and son ' Thomas Mclnnis attended the 125th anniversary of Montpelier Church at Wagram last Sunday, when the grandson of the late Mr. ? and Mrs. Charlie Livingston of that church preached the opening sermon in the a.m. and after a picnic dinner communion was held. Mr. and Mrs. L.D. Long of Fayetteville were dinner guests of his sister Mrs. Louise Watson after attending church services at Tabernacle Church Sunday a.m. . f Mr. and Mrs. Belton Mr. and Mrs. Worthy Andrews of Asheboro spent Sunday with Will Monroe. Mrs. Garnet Emory of Durham came last Saturday and is spending a few days with him. Mrs. A. A. Mclnnis visited her sisters, Miss Maggie Smith and Mrs. J.D. Mclnnis of Wagram Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hughes of Asheboro visited Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wood. Mrs. A.W. Wood, and Mrs. A. A. Mclnnis and son Thomas Mclnnis on Tuesday of last week. Mrs. Ruria Warner, Mrs. Glenn Wood and Mrs, Floyd Monroe attended the Jeb Stuart Chapter of UDC 75th anniversary at the Kyle House in Fayetteville Sunday p.m. While her sons Thomas, Dan and Edwin Mclnnis were at Camp Monroe Sunday evening, Mrs. Mary Mclnnis visited her sisters, Mi?s Maggie Smith, Mrs. Allie Mclnnis and her daughter. Mrs. Sarah C. Robins and her son John David Mclnnis. SNAKEBITES Last Friday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Gardner Bostirt daughter Mrs. Donna O'Briant who lives next to her parents was pulling grass from around a boxwood when a snake bit her on the arm and she is in Southeastern General Hos pital. Lumberton. Mrs. Herman Koonce went with Mr. and Mrs. Davis Parker to take their daughter Karen to Raleigh last Friday. She will be Governor Hunts page this week. Mrs. Cary Christ of Charleston, S.C. came on AMTRAK to Fay etteville and spent the night and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heath. They met her in Fayetteville and took her back to Fayetteville Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Heath of Clio, S.C. visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Paul Heath last Friday. Roy Shockley was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Jones, their son Roy Jones and his daughter Barbara last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Hunt and daughter, Alice of High Point also visited them Sunday p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Pannell's daughter Mrs. Linda Putnam of California spent the past weekend with her parents. Their daughter Laura Ann of Goldsboro was also with them for the weekend. COMMENT It has been a lovely spring so far. College News Julie Ann Kicklighter. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin D. Kicklighter of Raeford was recently inducted into Kappa Nu Sigma, the academic honor society of Meredith College. Meredith students who have maintained a 3.5 or better average over at least three years of work are eligible for membership in the organization. Twenty four juniors and seniors were inducted at the society's spring banquet. Miss Kicklighter is a junior music major at Meredith. Katherine A. Blue of Vass is among 52 students who have been elected to membership in the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Miss Blue, an English major, is a senior and the daughter of Mr. and Mts; Malcolm N. Blue. Star Rt., Vass. She graduated from Union Pines High School in Cameron. Miss Charlotta King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George M. King of Raeford, has been elected to the office of vice president of Faircloth Residence Hall in Student Gov ernment Association (SGA) elec tions held recently at Meredith College. Miss King is a rising sophomore at Meredith. Franklin Jordan, a freshman at Wingate Junior College and a member of the school track team, participated in the North Carolina Region X Division meet and took first place in the pole vault event. Jordan broke the Wingate school record with his 13*6" vault. The son of Or. and Mrs. Julius Jordan, he also holds the Hoke High pole vault record. ? ? ?
