Ouakt.t,.. last, Local 4-H Girl Takes State Honors Contributed by Fnddb O'Neal A lot of hard work and dedica tion has paid off for Miss Debbie McNeill and her award winning 4-H Long Term Record Book. Debbie resides at 81 1 E. Donaldson Avenue in Raeford with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McNeill. For the last six years Debbie has been a 4-H'er and has been involved with all aspects of this national youth organization. She is most industrious and displays ex cellent leadership abilities which enables other 4-H'ers and youth to follow the fine example that she has set. Some of the offices and commit tees that Debbie has held and been associated with are: County Coun cil President, Secretary, Reporter, Club Secretary and Reporter, Chairman of County Scrapbook, and served on the Agricultural Extension Advisory Board in the planning of 4-Sight, a six-year program development plan, along with these are many other local and county committees she has served on. Some other leadership roles were the Master of Ceremonies for the County Talent Show and the County Achievement Programs, along with participation in other church, school and 4-H District Teen Retreat programs. Debbie has attended State 4-H Congress two years, County 4-H Camp three years, Citizenship Shortcourse in Washington, D.C., County 4-H Achievement Day six years and some sixty more 4-H events in the past six years. All of these events are for 4-H'ers, which enabled Debbie and other many opportunities to meet new friends, exchange ideas and expand the previous program. As for accomplishments and honors Debbie has received many camp certificates, two demonstra tions, Automotive Skill Driving contest and two of the highest honors received on the county level which are 1976 Outstanding 4-H Service Award and the 1977 Achievement Award. Record books are one of the most important parts of the 4-H pro gram. Some of Debbie's major 4-H projects consist of Forestry, Bicycle Safety. Junior Leadership, Home Environment, Self Determined, Automotive, Safety, Health Careers and Photography. What is a long-time record book, better known as commulative rec ord? In this day and time records are important to practically every individual with all sorts of records, communication, learning and shar ing that should be kept up with. The cummulative record consists of the accumulation of concise de tailed, neat and accurate material that an individual has compiled. While three years of membership are desirable prior to submitting a record for district, state, and national competition the time re quired is only a year. Record keeping It's run. ..to know where you have been. It's Important. ..to know where you are. It's Exciting... to plan where you are going. It's Rewarding... to be recog nized for your efforts in making the best better. As well as being fun 4-H is an educational youth organization that works hand in hand with the school, church, community, and home to aid in the education necessary for youth to develop into adulthood. A big aid to Debbie has been John Buckholz who is a teacher at Hoke High. John has been teaching Photography for the past two years. WINNER -?
