Rockfish News by Mrs. A.A. Mclnnis - No news from Tabernacle Church except attendance was very good for the morning worship Service. ; The revival at Pittman Grove Church last week was very success ful with the Rev. George Mc Keithan, pastor of Second Baptist Church, Raeford, preaching. There were many rededications, and one new member was added to the church. The M.Y.F. met at Parker Church from 3 to 5 p.m. last Sunday. The U.M.W. of Parker Church .had a cake sale at Wayside Community House last Saturday night that turned out very well. Mrs. Margaret Johnston of Winston - Salem spent from Monday to Thursday last week with ?Mr. and Mrs. Herman Koonce, ,Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Koonce, And Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Koonce. She came especially to see her sister, Mrs. Furman Martin who is at Open Arms Rest Home in .Raeford. v Mrs. Floyd Monroe, Mrs. Herman Koonce, Mrs. Glenn Wood and Mrs. Ruria Warner attended the dedication of the ?Headquarters Building of the North Carolina Division United Daughters of the Confederacy in Raleigh Saturday May 14. ?" Mrs. Minor McGougan of St. Pauls visited her father Will Monroe Sunday afternoon. Ritter was getting along very well Monday when I talked to her. And she said her son , - in - law Henry Epps was doing better than usual. He has had so | much back trouble and been to the i doctor so often, his doctor told him * jn a joking manner recently, "Get \ out of here before you get sick again," But of course everyone knows he would not get sick if he rtcould help it, neither would anypne * else. Mrs. A.W. Wood accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Wood and daughter Beth and Mrs. R.V. Page of Wilmington to Chapel Hill last Sunday to see Allen Wood graduate with honors from Law School. Mrs. Evelyn Brock of Red Springs and her son Jimmy Brock visited Mrs. Nelia Brock for a while last Saturday afternoon. He was from Morganton. My one and only son - in - law Earl J. Hare called to my attention to the fact that I had too many Mclnnis names in the Rockfish News one week. It was true I don't like to have it that way but it was Monday after Mother's Day and I guess the family was stirring around more than usual that Sunday. I tried to get some other people's Mother's Day news but most of them 1 couldn't get "over the party line". So please excuse me. Maybe it won't happen again or maybe it will. Lancaster have had Mr. and Mrs. David Lancaster's children with them the past week, while their parents were on a trip somewhere. They came for the children Monday. COMMENT The saying that "No news is good news" is no good when what you want is news. WHOOPS ?? Red faced firemen have put up a smoke screen about an incident which happened over the weekend at the "Hill Crest Fire Department Some hasty Hillcrest fireman apparently tried to exit without opening the door. However, the man can 't be culled a "county " bumpkin as he only duplicated a mistake made a few years ago by a city fireman. [Photo by Marty Vega \ Rape Suspect Arrested A forty five year-old county man has been jailed on charges of rape, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon after a Sunday spree in which one woman was shot. Being held in the Hoke County jail without privilege of bond is James Edward Hunt, no address listed. Hunt has been charged with the rape of Christine Oxendine, 22. of Rt. 1, Red Springs, who reported the alleged attack Sunday to deputies here. Hunt's estranged wife, Jessie Locklear Hunt, was hospitalized at Scotland Memorial Hospital after being wounded by gunfire in Robeson County, detective Alex Norton said. Norton said Hunt kidnapped the two women at gunpoint from Mrs. Hunt's home in the South Hoke area Sunday morning. Miss Oxendine had been living at the home. The detective said that Hunt drove them into Robeson County where Mrs. Hunt was shot. Miss Oxendine was driven back to the South Hoke home where the alleged sexual assault occurred. Norton said Robeson County authorities would file additional charges against Hunt in connection with the shooting. Hunt was arrested at his home about 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Norton said. A May 19 appearance has been set. * ? * Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis. , displayed at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.
