Mental Health Treatment Offered To Local Residents Through Sandhills Center Mental health outpatient services are available to Hoke County residents through the Sandhills Mental Health Center, one of several comprehensive mental health centers established through out the state. A full range of services is available, including individual therapy for adults and children, marriage counseling, psychiatric evaluation and drug and alcohol counseling. After-hours emergency services are provided through the emergen cy room at Moore Memorial Hospi tal in Pinehurst. Hospitalization can be arranged in the psychiatric inpatient unit at Moore Memorial or at Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh. Information and appointments for services are available by calling the Hoke County Health Center (875-3717). All services are confi dential. Fees are based on a sliding scale according to income and no one is refused services for financial reasons. The major work of the mental health center is outpatient treat ment. This is for the majority of patients who continue to live in the community and are seen for ther apy appointments at regular inter vals. Outpatient services also in clude evaluation and referral of patients who may need more intensive treatment, and aftercare for patients discharged from hospi tals. The Sandhills Mental Health Center also serves Moore, Mont gomery, Richmond and Anson counties. The Center is supported by county, state and federal funds and is governed by a board of directors composed of representa tives of each of the five counties. Phillip Diehl of Raeford is the current chairman of the board of directors. James A. Hunt and Mrs. Neil McPhatter are the other local members on the board. Hoke ig Mights bf Barry Ellis Well, it may seem hard to believe but there is only one week of school left for the seniors and two weeks for everyone else. This year has really flown by for all of us. The year is beginning to wind down as many clubs are having their last meetings and some are having parties. Year end activities are keeping everyone busy trying to cram last minute assignments into the two weeks left along with invitations to mail, the athletic banquet, graduation, exams, etc. The Hoke High Band presented its annual Spring Concert this past Thursday, May 19. The band, as always, put on a fine performance. The band highlighted a song, by showing slides of their Florida trip, while they were playing. Twenty - eight members of the Health Careers Club along with Shirley Gibson, Mrs. Tommie Pickler, and the club advisor, Mrs. Sally Young visited the seventh annual Health careers Fair at the North Carolina Memorial Hospital ? ' .r* ? at Chapel Hill. The theme for this year's fair was, "Get high on health". There were numerous exhibits and display on the varied career options in the field of health. Mrs.. Young said the fair was very educational, fun, informative, and very interesting since the students were able to talk with Health Careers Club members across the state. Many agreed that the most interesting exhibits were the ones on open heart surgery, lungs, and kidney dialysis. Wednesday was the last day for the Health Occupation II students to help at Moore Memorial Hospital. The students have been helping there since the first week in January. They have found it to be very rewarding, beneficial, and a great first hand experience. The Hoke High Chorale had a party at my house Tuesday night. It was a cookout and everyone had a good time, despite the constant threat of rain. WRECK ?? The driver of this Buick. Ezzard Scrivert. 22, received minor injuries Thursday morning when the vehicle collided head ? on with a truck on W. Prospect Ave. near Bethel Road. Scriven was cited by police for driving left of center. [ Photo by Henry Blue] Tax List Joseph E. A Linda F.
