Is Honored
At Luncheon
Miss Betsy Pratt, June bride
elect, was honored at a buffet
luncheon Saturday at 1:00 at the
home of Mrs. Hugh Lowe. Other
hostesses were Miss Maude Poole
and Mrs. Isabel Dombkowski.
Twelve guests were seated at
small tables covered with white
linen cloths and centered with
arrangements of spring flowers. A
pastel color theme was used
throughout the house.
Miss Pratt was presented a
corsage of pink carnations and gifts
of linen, silver, and china from the
hostesses.
Attending from out of town was
Mrs. H.C. McLauchlin of Char
lotte.

The Wednesday Morning Bridge
Club met with Mrs. Edna Davis
last week with one visitor, Mrs. Pat
Sappenfield.
Mrs. Mozelle Duncan was high
scorer, and Mrs. Sappenfield was
remembered with a gift.

Mr. and Mrs. Scott Ash of Ram
stien AFB, Germany, announce the
birth of a daughter, Kristin Eliza
beth, on May 17. Mrs. Ash is the
former Elizabeth Dupre of Ben
nettsville, S.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Jay Woodard an
nounce the engagement of Mrs.
Woodard's daughter, Betsy Anne
Pratt, to William Gary Lowe, son
of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Lowe
of Raeford. Miss Pratt is also the
daughter of Myron Pratt of Cron
well, Conneticut. A June eleventh
wedding is planned. Miss Pratt was
graduated from Hoke County High
School, attended UNC at Wilming
ton, and was graduated from
Sandhills Community College
School of Nursing in March. She is
presently employed with the office
of Dr. Ramnik Zota of Raeford.
Mr. Lowe was graduated from
Hoke County High School and is
employed by Hoke Auto Parts Co.
of Raeford.

The bride was presented a gift of
lingerie by the hostesses.

Congressman's Wives
Honor First Lady
Mrs. Charles G. Rose, III, wife
of 7th District Congressman
Charlie Rose, was co-chairman of
the annual breakfast held Thurs
day at the Shoreham - Americana
Hotel by the Congressional Club in
honor of First Lady Rosalynn
Carter.
Every spring since 1912, the
Congressional Club has given a
breakfast in honor of our nation's
First Lady. In attendance this year
were over 1,100 wives of senators,
congressmen, Supreme Court
justices, and cabinet members and
wives of former holders of these
offices, along with their guests.
Next year, Mrs. Rose will be
chairman of the Breakfast Com
mittee, which plans and carries out
all arrangements for this important
event.
Mrs. Carter and the other
distinguished guests were intro
duced by Mrs. Rose and Mrs.
Tennyson Cuyer of Ohio, Chair
man of the 1977 Breakfast
Committee.
The honored guests included
Mrs. Walter Mondale, wife of Vice
President, Mrs. Thomas P.
O'Neill, Jr., wife of the Speaker of
the House of Representatives, Mrs.
Warren E. Burger, wife of the
Chief Justice, Mrs. Cyrus Vance,
wife of the Secretary of State, wives
of the Supreme Court Justices,
other Cabinet members' wives, the
Honorable Juanita Kreps from
North Carolina, Secretary of Com
merce, the Honorable Patricia
Roberts Harris, Secretary of Hous
ing and Urban Development, and
Mrs. Hubert H. Humphrey.

Congressional Club Presidents

North Carolinians Mrs. Roy Taylor
and Mrs. Richardson Preyer.
Members of the Congressional
Club are active in many types of
community services and charity
work, and the Club donates funds
to charities in behalf of the First
Lady. Mrs. Carter chose the
Mental Health Program of the
District and the Washington, D.C.
Chapter of Recording for the Blind.

organizations.
Theme of this year's breakfast
was "Roses of Rosalynn". The
huge chandelier - lit ballroom was
garden - like with the Carter green
and white campaign colors.
Cherokee roses, with state flower of
Georgia, were placed throughout
the room and perfumed the air.
The honored guests were es
corted to the head table by
members at the Marine Corps in
full dress uniform along a ramp
covered in green and lined with
topiary trees with Peace roses flown
in the day before from Ohio.
The head table was also covered
in green with a green and white
latticework backdrop. Roses form
ed the centerpieces.
Mrs. Carter was presented a
framed needlepoint sampler by the
Congressional Club. This unique
design depicts the White House
encircled with Cherokee roses in
which the first names of the Carter
family are entwined.
Radiant in anultra - suede violet
- blue dress, Mrs. Carter addressed
the group in her soft voice. She said
she was glad to be at "her first
breakfast".
The Marine Band provided
background music. Singer Tony
Bennett entertained with such
songs as his famous "I Left My
Heart in San Francisco", after first
saluting Mrs. Carter.
Personals
Mrs. Carl Freeman spent the past
few weeks visiting Mrs. W.M.
Blackmon & family in High Point
and Mrs. Everett Ferrell & family
in Saxaphaw. While 'visiting the
Ferrells Mrs. Freeman attended the
graduating exercises at UNC-G
where Anna Ferrell received her
Bachelor of Music degree.
Miss Betsy Pratt and Gary Lowe
spent the weekend with her sister
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne
Harmon and children, in Marietta,
Ga.
Mrs. Allyne Faulk has returned
home after spending eight weeks at
Highsmith-Rainey and Duke Hos
pital.
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Culbreth.
Jr. of Smithfield were dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Culbreth
of Culbreth Estates on Tuesday
evening of last week. Mr. and Mrs.
Culbreth are spending a few days
this week at their home in Selma.
Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Harris were in
Durham for the weekend visiting
their son and family. Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Harris and son. Jeffrey, who
have recently moved there from
Cincinnatti. Ohio. They celebrated
Jeffrey's third party on Saturday.
Allen Wood is accompanying his
grandmother. Mrs. R.V. Page, of
Wilmington, this week on a visit to
Honolulu. They will return by way
of San Diego, California, to visit
with relatives.
Mrs. Joe Gulledge has returned
from Portsmouth, R.I., after
spending a month with her daugh
ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. H.C.
Fisher and daughter. Amy.
Mrs. Susan Long has returned
from visiting her son and daughter
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Robert Long, in Maple Shade,
N.J., and her cousin Mrs. Mary
Shaw McDiarmid Montague, in
Springfield, Pa. ?
Mr. and Mrs. Donald White are
visiting their daughter and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith, and
granddaughter and family. Mr.
and Mrs. Jerry Naufzinger. in
Bycyrus, Ohio, for the occasion of
the birth of the White's great
granddaughter, Angela Nicole,
who is a fourth generation daugh
