Social Reporter, 875-4171 Strother-Daniels Vows Spoken j At Antioch Presbyterian Church | Miss Judith Ann Daniels, ? daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sammons Daniels of Lumber Bridge, and Leland Dewey Strother of Aberdeen, were united in marriage at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 19/7, at Antioch Presbyterian Church. The Reverends Charles C. Ansley, pastor of the bride, and Robert L. Denton, pastor of the bridegroom, officiated. William Daniels, brother of the bride, presented an organ recital of selections from Handel, Bach, Massenet, Franck, Lemmens, and others. Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Daniels, Jr. sang "Let it Be Me" and "Whither Thou Goest". William Daniels sang "The Wedding Song", "Evergreen", and Malotte's "Lord's Prayer". Tim McKenzie was trumpeter. Palms grouped in the chancel and choir loft formed a background of greenery, further enhancing the beauty of the sanctuary. Above the chancel, lighted candles entwined a focal arrangement of mums, gladioli, babies' breath and other * mixed spring flowers. Lighted candles and mixed flower ar rangements in tree - shaped candleabra also adorned the setting. Greenery at the center of the choir rail formed the back ground for the double kneeling bench. Family pews were marked by bouquets of mixed flowers. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a floor - length gown of organza which featured a scoop neckline of illusion trimmed with Qiantilly lace. A large organza ruffle encircled the bodice, and the empire waist was caught with a wide organza band. The full length organza puffed sleeves were caught at the wrist . by a Chantilly lace band. The skirt extended into a Chapel train with an organza ruffle and Chantilly lace bordering the hemline. The bride chose a fingertip ? length Chantilly lace * mantilla with an illusion blusher to match her gown. Tiny seed pearls decorated the cap of lace. She carried a nosegay of white pixie , carnations, babies' breath, and pink sweetheart roses. Miss Joyce Diane McKenzie of Shannon served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Ann Harden Cook of Fayetteville, Mrs. Everette W. McNeill II of Shan non, Miss Sally McKenzie Johnson of Shannon, and Miss Angela Darlene Strother of Aberdeen. They wore chiffon gowns in pastel shades of apricot, pink, yellow, green, and blue with matching chiffon covered picture hats. Each carried a nosegay of mixed flowers. Honorary bridesmaids were Miss Susan Marie Croft of Aberdeen, Miss Cynthia Louise McNeill of Shannon, and Miss Cheryl Anne Stutts of Red Springs. They were attired in floor ? length gowns. Mrs. Strother, mother of the bride groom, wore a mint green gown with yellow rosebud corsage. Mr. Steven Arlo Cox of Aberdeen served as best man. Groomsmen were Everette W. McNeill U, of Shannon, Frank Sandy, Glen Alen of Virginia, Winfield Stacey of Raleigh, and Garry Strother of Raeford. Miss Sarah McKenzie, aunt of the bride directed the wedding. Reception After the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained with a re ception in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Mr. and Mrs. H.A. McKenzie, uncle and aunt ot the bride, greeted guests and intro duced them to the receiving line which consisted of the bridal couple and their parents. Bridesmaids presided over the guest register and the bride's oortrait and welcomed guests into the reception room. Misses Sarah and Margaret McKenzie, aunts of tlje bride, Mrs. Frank Sandy, niece of the bride groom, Mrs. Roudolf Jordan, sister of the bridegroom, Mrs. Fred Johnson, Mrs. Wilson McBryde, Mrs. E.W. McNeill, and Mrs. BUI Evans assisted in serving. Tea girls were the honorary bridesmaids, Miss Linda Croft, and Miss Nancy Currie. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Daniels Jr., directed guests to the sitting room where they were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Lamon Bruner and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harden of Fayetteville, aunt and uncle of the bride. Goodbyes were said by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Croft of Aberdeen and Mr. and Mrs. Davis Currie of Chatham, Virginia. Rice bags were distributed by Miss April Cook of Fayetteville. Guests were entertained with organ music throughout the reception area furnished by William Daniels. After a wedding trip to the North Carolina mountains the couple will reside at Route one, Aberdeen. Bridesmaids Luncheon On Saturday, June 11, Miss Daniels was honored with a noon luncheon at the home of Mrs. E.W. McNeill II. Other hostesses were Miss Joyce McKenzie, Miss Sallie Mac Johnson, and Mrs. Ann Cook. Places were set for fourteen guests in the dining anci living rooms. Miss Daniels was presented a piece of crystal in her chosen pattern. The bride chose this occasion to present gifts to her attendants. Groomsmen's Luncheon Leland Strother was honored with a steak cookout at twelve noon on Saturday. June 11. at the home of Harry Daniels. Host for the occasion was William Daniels. Places were set poolside for the twelve guests. Mr. Strother received a thermal ice bucket from the host. He presented gifts to the groomsmen at this time. Post- Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dewey Strother, parents of the bride groom, entertained with an eight o'clock buffet dinner at the Shera ton Inn in Southern Pines. Those attending were the wedding party, out - of - town guests, and relatives. Approximately sixty guests at tended. Bride-elect Honored With Shower Larue C. Brock, bride-elect of William Robert Lane, Jr. of High Point, was honored Saturday, June 11, with a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Bill R. Hagins of Greensboro. The refreshment table was cov ered with a white linen tablecloth. A bride and groom carousel was used for the centerpiece. Nuts, mints, punch, potato chips, and cake squares, topped with a minia ture bride and groom, were served. A rose corsage and many nice and useful gifts were presented to the bride-elect. Attending from Raeford were: Mrs. Hunter S. Carroll, mother of the bride-elect, Mrs. Dan Hagins, Miss Dana Sue Hagins and Mrs. Cora Mae Jackson. Also attending were Mrs. Wade Hendrix of Char lotte and relatives and friends of the bridal couple from the High Point and Greensboro area. Mr. and Mrs. H.L. *Gatlin, Jr. returned Thursday from a three week trip to England and Scotland. Pinehurst Dinner Theatre presents DANA ANDREWS in "MARRIAGE-GO-ROUND" . JULY 1 thru 17 Air-CondWomd Cardinal Ballroom Miss Pratt, Wed In Ho Mr. Lowe me Ceremony Miss Betsy Ann Pratt and William Gary Lowe were married Saturday, June 11, at 3:00 p.m., at the country home of the bride. Miss Pratt is the daughter of Mrs. J.W. Woodard of Raeford and A.M. Pratt of Cromwell, Conn. Mr. Lowe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Lowe of Raeford. Officiating at the ceremony was the Rev. John C. Ropp. Wedding music was provided by Mrs. Rachel Stevens, organist, David Domb kowski, trumpeter, and Ken Koonce, vocalist. Mr. Dombkowski played "IF*, and Mr. Koonce, vocalist sang "The Wedding Song." The setting for the ceremony was front porch of the country home, which was decorated with ferns, magnolias, and Queen Anne's lace. The bride was escorted by her brother ? in - law Wayne Harmon, of Marietta, Ga. She wore a white empire-style nylon organdy floor length gown ending with a lace ruffle around the skirt. Her waist - length veil was attached to a lace cap. She carried a bouquet of white daisies and pink roses. Mrs. Wayne Harmon of Mari etta, Ga., was matron of honor for her sister, and Miss Lollie Hill of Raeford was maid of honor. They were attired in pink and peach floral print gowns of sheer cotton and carried bouquets of pink and peach daisies with babies' breath. Ringbearer was John Harmon of Marietta, Ga., nephew of the bride. William H. Lowe served as best man for his son. Ushers were Eddie Stewart and Dick Lippard of Raeford. They were attired in light blue suits. After a wedding trip to the mountains, the couple will reside at 108 W. Donaldson Ave. in Raeford. The bride attended Sandhills Community College and UNC at Wilmington. She is employed as a nurse for Dr. Zota in Raeford. The bridegroom graduated from Hoke County High School and is employed at Raeford Auto Parts. Reception Immediately following the cere mony guests were invited into the home for the reception, given by the bride's mother. An arrangment of pink and peach daisies and orange snap dragons and carnations in a candelabra centered the dining table. The wedding cake was cut by Mrs. Neill McFadyen, and punch was poured by Mrs. June Johnson and Mrs. Kerr Stevens. Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Neill McFadyen entertained members of the wedding party and the family with a dinner at their home on Friday evening, June 10. Dinner was served buffet - style to the sixteen guests who were seated at the dining table and small tables. The dining table was cen McNeill- Desist "W& Mrs. William Lacy McNeill an nounces the engagement of her daughter. Mary Janet, to Michael Maxwell Desist, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Desist of Fayetteville. Miss McNeill is a graduate of Hoke County High School and has a BA in Elementary Education from Methodist College and a MA in Early Childhood from Western Carolina University. She is em ployed by Camp Lejeune Depen dent Schools. Mr. Desist is a graduate of Fayetteville Sr. High School, and has a BS from UNC at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. He is employed as a registered pharmacist at K-Mart Pharmacy in Fayetteville. A July 31 wedding is planned at Raeford Presbyterian Church. Guests ?f Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Culbreth of Culbreth Estates on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week were Larry Culbreth of Selma and June Marie Culbreth of ECU. Ir. Mrs. William Gary Lowe lered with an arrangement of Queen Anne's lace and white and yellow daisies. Pre-Nuptial Parties Miss Pratt was honored at a linen and lingerie shower on Tuesday evening, June 7, at the home of Mrs. Kerr Stevens. On arrival, the bride was pre sented a corsage of babies' breath and pale blue carnations. Several bridal games were enjoyed by the guests. Favorite recipes of the guests, placed in a recipe box, were also given to the honoree. Shower Honors Miss Wood Miss Debbie Wood, June bride elect of Michael Stedman was honored with a floating shower on Friday, June 10, at tne home of Mrs. Elizabeth Seago. Co-hostess for the evening was Mrs. Danny Gibson. The dining table was centered with a yellow and white floral arrangement. Cake, mints, and sesame crackers were served. Mrs. Julian Monroe served the punch. Miss Wood was given a corsage of daisies and a piece of china in her chosen pattern by the hostesses. Miss Wood and Mr. Steadman are to be married on June 25 at MacPherson Church in Fayette ville. Invitation The wedding of Larue C. Brock of Raeford and William Robert Lane, Jr.. of High Point, will take lace on Saturday, June 18th, at :00 p.m. in Ephesus Baptist Church. A cordial invitation is extended to all friends and relatives of the couple. A reception will follow at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hunter S. Carroll of Route 3. Raeford. Ketreshments ot homemade ice cream, chocolate cake, salted nuts, and iced drinks were served after the opening of gifts. Arrangments of summer flowers and ferns were used throughout the house. On Wednesday evening, June 8, Mrs. Eddie Baker honored Miss Pratt with a kitchen shower at her home. Homemade ice cream and cake were served to the guests. Miss Pratt was presented a gift of china from the hostess. Bon Voyage Party Honors Couples On Saturday evening, June 11, Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Morgan and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Morgan were hosts for surprise bon voyage party for Mr. and Mrs. Larry Phillips and Mr. and Mrs. Bill McPhaul. The Phillipses will be making their home in Asheboro, and the McPhauls in Halifax, Va. Fifteen couples enjoyed a covered dish supper. Picnic tables were covered with checked tablecloths and centered with geranium plants. A bon voyage cake was served to the guests after dinner. The hosts and guests remem bered Mr. and Mrs. Phillips with a fire screen and fire set and Mr. and Mrs. McPhaul, with an 8 place setting of china and glasses.
