Home Ec. Agent Dingy, gray articles of clothing may possibly be returned to their original color using the overnight cycle, using hot water - adding one cup water conditioner and diluted bleach. Do not add more detergent. 7. Rinse until all detergent is removed. Next week Anna Peele, Assistant Home Economist, will give tips on the prevention and removal of yellow stains on fabrics. bath method Summer has finally come to Hoke County, bringing with it hot, humid weather. Those summer whites made of synthetic fibers that we all love (nylon, polyester, etc.) could by the end of summer become grayed and yellow. This could be caused by four things: left-in dirt and body oils, the use of chlorine bleach on certain fabrics and finishes, chemicals in the wash water and the nature of the fiber. To whiten grayed clothes, one of two methods can be used, depend ing on the cause of graying. The quick cure is an overnight soak in a detergent bath. Use the following procedure: 1 . Fill washer to lowest level with hot water. 2. Add one cup water condition er. 3. Add four times the amount of detergent you normally use for a full load. 4. Put clothes in and agitate until clothes are saturated -- about one minute. Stop washer and let soak for 12 hours or overnight. 5. After soaking, set washer to drain. Spin, but do not agitate. 6.
