[ Photo by Hoke High Photographer ] Hoke Team Starts Practice Football practice officially began at Hoke County High School Monday night with the popping of pads as the first day contact drills were allowed. It was a week of con ditioning and Head Coach John Harris admits he was pleased with the condition most of the players reported in for the start of practice. "We had several players who were not as prepared as we had hoped, but they seem to be getting into shape now. We will continue with a strong conditioning program throughout August because we believe the early games will be won in the fourth quarter by the team that is in the best shape," Harris said. Harris had praise for the attitude of the players during these workouts stating that "a positive attitude exists and these young men truly believe in themselves and their ability to get the job done." The Hoke High Bucks will start season action Sept. 2 against Seventy - First High School. Season tickets are now on sale at the high school. If you wish to purchase season tickets, contact John Pecora, ath letic director at the high school. Season tickets are $12 each. For this price, you are entitled to see Five (5) varsity home games, five (5) junior varsity home games, sit in the reserved section, and receive a permit for the reserved parking area. This year, tickets for adults and students will be S2 each at the gate. The victory wrapped up the .season-ending tournament for the P.O. They went through the four day event undefeated. Tim Hawks and Wayne Genkins each went 4-5 in the winning effort. Singletary 2 PSU Summer Session Ends Pembroke State University's summer school, which attracted a total of 2,116, counting boih sessions, concluded Friday with students having a two-week break before returning Aug. 21-26 for the start of the fall semester. During summer school, 1.181 students attended in the first five-week session, and 935 attended during the second session. The fall semester begins Sunday, Aug. 21, when dormitories will be open for freshmen. On Aug. 22-23 freshman orientation will be held. On Aug. 24-25, registration for all students is scheduled, beginning each day at 8 a.m. in the Jones Health and Physical Education Center. Regular classes begin Fri day, Aug. 26. Warren Baker, admissions di rector of PSU, says Pembroke State "should hold its own" as far as numbers are concerned for the fall. Last fall a record 2,187 attended PSU. "I see no significant increase nor decrease," said Baker. The PSU Admissions Office has processed and accepted 400 appli cations, reported Baker, which is about the same number as last year. As for housing. Baker sees no problem tor living quarters tor students wishing to attend I'SIJ this fall. Booster Club Recruiting Members The Hoke High Booster Club has launched its 19"1? - "'H membership drive in anticipation of the best year yet for the group.
