CAT RESCUE - James Melton, one of the county custodians, holds the small kitten he rescued Monday from its prison over the ceiling of the Parks and Recreation office. The kitten had been stuck since last Friday and Melton worked most of the morning, removing sections of the wall piece by piece, to get at it. The kitten, as yet unnamed, had a big meal of tuna and milk and then happily went home to its new owner. Don Slaughter. News Photographs by Art Gore were received last week at the library. Two lovely, nostalgic fall scenes captured by superb workmanship with a camera! If you enjoyed Art Gore's "Images of Yesterday" you will certainly appreciate the beauty in these photographed scenes. The pictures allude to historical country living in most any rural areas where once the old water pump in the yard was a modern convenience, replacing the old oaken bucket and the well in the side or back yard. Of course, replacing the well with a pump still didn't do away with the gourd dipper right away. However the oaken bucket was eventually replaced with the enameled bucket in white, grey, blue and the pretty one in Art's photograph of blue and white with a white enameled drink ing cup. Autumn in any area brings about the falling of leaves after Mother Nature has had her chance with many colors. This scene pictured against an old distressed wood barn leaves us to feel, 'tho' the leaves were raked yesterday, more have fallen because this scene should exist this time of year. Following the same mood in the second scene, you want to just reach out and pick up an apple from the table, 'cause the knife is there if you don't like eating the peeling. Nice red apples tumbling out of a box, destined for the old cider press and keg found there won't be around long to chomp on. Somehow Fall always alludes to nostalgia, not only because of our historical past but of the present year and its labors that are behind us. Sometimes it's hard to move forward but we feel that God in His infinite wisdom knows we earth lings and how set we become in our ways; so gently. He maneuvers us ever forward. These graphic scenes and their beauty by our native son. Arthur D. Gore. Jr.. are well worth your time. So come by the library to see them. Your appreciation to Art for remembering Hoke County, his home town, with his two lovely books and now these scenes for the library walls can be expressed through your interest in them as you come in to visit here. For those who through the years have wished him well, they can see through his work he has succeeded. BOOKMOBILE SCHEDULE Oct. 31 WAYSIDE -- Alona McNeill. Cleva Newton.
