A 16 year study of 3000 long
shoremen found the death rate
from coronary heart attacks
was VS higher among seden
tary workers than among those
who handled the cargo. Heavy
cigarette smoking created
even higher risk of premature
heart attacks than the seden
? tary life. The sedentary long
shoremen expended 925 fewer
calories per day than the cargo
? handlers, which suggests a
reduced diet in calories for the
sedentary worker.
