Romps

Bucks
42-8
* Hoke's inability to stop the big
play, coupled with five costly
fumbles, resulted in a 42-8 romp at
the hands of Cary Friday night.
Four touchdown passes over the
outstretched hands of the Buck
defenders proved to be disasterous
. .uk * A
as Hoke's record fell to 1-7 overall.
Cary's star quarterback Jeff Bla
lock had scoring tosses of 35 and 1 2
yards to Chris Castor, as well as a
15-yard toss to A1 Bond. Halfback
Ricky Bledsoe chipped in with an
option pass to Ralph Hooker.
Bledsoe also ran for 153 yards to
give the Imps a well-rounded
attack.
It could have been a different
story as all four passes were within
range of Buck defensive backs who
were unable to make the big play.
y MIDGET LEAGUE -* The Rams lost to the Falcons 8-0 in the first round of Midget Football League action but

Randy McMillian did come up with
one interception at the two-yard
line and returned it 13 yards.
Offensively, the running of Leo
nard Everette and play calling of
Mark Wood highlighted the Bucks
effort.
On their first possession, the
Bucks drove 72 yards to the Cary
12-yard line where a Wood pitch to
Everette was fumbled and re
covered by Cary.
Everette accounted for 50 of the
yards (40 running and 10 receiving)
and Calvin McGilvary got the other
22.
After the McMillian interception
Hoke took over on their own 15.
Everette broke through for a
45-yard gallop to put Hoke at
Cary's 40. This drive was stalled by
another fumble on the next play.
Cary managed to score on each
possession and led 21-0 at the half.

The Upchurch Jr. High Football

Oct. 5 with a 22-0 victory over
Rohanen.
The victorious Eagles scored
three touchdowns, two by the
offense and one by the defense.
Cleavon Harris and Tony Hollings
worth scored the two offensive

Lide pass combination and Harris
on a two-yard run.
On Oct. 12 the Eagles traveled to
Wadesboro playing Anson Jr. High
to a 0-6 defeat. The losing effort by
the Eagles marked their record at
1-1.
Oct. 19 saw the Eagles hosting
Hamlet Jr. High. The game turned
out to be a defensive struggle with
the Eagles coming out on top 4-0.
The Eagles mounted several offen
sive drives but failed to capitalize.
The defense scored a safety in each
half for the Eagles victory.
The Eagles have three games left
to play: Oct. 26 against Anson at
home, Nov. 2 against Hamlet away,
and Nov. 9 against Rockingham
away.
kickoff and Jeremy Simmons re
turned it to the 35. On the first play
Everette was hit hard and fumbled
to Cary. After seven plays it was
28-0 as the Bucks were guilty of a
face mask penalty after having
stopped the Imps on fourth down.
Once again Simmons gave the
Bucks good field position and this
time the offensive unit capitalized.
On fourth and three from their own
40, Wood threw a screen to
Everette who ran 60 yards for the
touchdown. The P.A.T. pass from
Wood to Everette was good and the
score was 28-8.
Hoke was unable to come up
with the big play throughout the
night and Cary scored twice more,
both on fourth down plays.
For the night, the Bucks offen
sive line paved the way for 292
yards rushing and gave Wood
excellent protection on passes that
accounted for 100 yards. Wood was
five for 10 and Everette with three
and Lemar Cook with two were the
leading receivers. David Holland,
Mike McBryde and Terry Chavis
had outstanding efforts on the line
and Bob Jordan, Cook and Alwer
tha Galberth blocked well on the
perimeter.
On defense. Chavis and Sim
mons continued to perform well at
their tackle and safety positions.
