CELEBRATES 99TH BIRTH DA Y - Miss Minnie J. Martin celebrated her
99th birthday Dec. 2 at McCain Hospital, where she has been a patient
since July. Along with cards and flowers, she received a note from Governor
Jim Hunt wishing her all the best on her special day. Miss Martin said she
received another letter from the executive mansion in 1971. Jessie Ray Scott
and her husband, the Governor, had admired a quilt Miss Martin made
that was on display at the state fair. Miss Martin said she was born and
raised on a farm in eastern Biscoe. She was a resident at Allen s Rest Home
there before entering McCain.

Last Friday night the Hoke High
Bucks Basketball teams dominated
the courts. The Varsity. Junior
Varsity and Girls Basketball teams
each won their match. The scores,
respectively were 51-48, 72-71.

The H.H.S. Wrestling team also
started their season last week. On
Thursday the Bucks defeated Pine
crest 38-33. On Friday the Bucks
defeated the Richmond Raiders
36-30.

The WMU held their monthly
meeting at the Baptist Church
Tuesday Night.
The Volunteer Fire Department
and Ladies' Auxiliary's annual
Christmas dinner was held at The
Town Hall Saturday Night. A
turkey and ham dinner was served
to sixty-five guests.
The Ladies' Auxiliary met Tues
day night with sixteen members
present.
20th Wedding Anniversary
M/Sgt. and Mrs. William H.
Schell.lll of Seymour Johnson
AFB, N.C. were honored by their
daughters on Sunday, November
27. It was the couple's 20th
wedding anniversary. TTie surprise
party was held in the home of Sgt.
Schell's parents in Lumber Bridge.
The three tiered cake was baked
and decorated by Misses Beborah
Lynn and Billie Sue Schell. daugh
ters of the honored couple. It w as in
white with green, pink and blue
flowers and topped with love birds

couple cut the first slice, the

The Christmas Cantata was pre
sented at the Bach Swamp Baptist
Church, Sunday at four o'clock
under the direction of Mrs. Jimmy
Maxwell. On Sunday, December
1 1th at five o'clock this Cantata will
be given at the Lumber Bridge
Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Ann Troutman spent last
week with her mother-in-law, Mrs.
Dewey Troutman in Statesville.
Mrs. Troutman was very ill and in
the hospital there. Mrs. Ann
Troutman was called home Mon
day due to the illness of her
brother, Ralph Stewart of Raeford,
who is a patient at Moore Memorial
Hospital.
