Bridqe Mrs. Upchurch Mrs. Lewis Upchurch, Jr. was hostess for her bridge club when members entertained their guests at a holiday dinner party at the home of Mrs. John Walker on Thursday evening. Christmas decorations were used in the entertaining room, and an open fire was enjoyed in the living room. Four tables covered with linen cloths and centered with lighted candles encircled with holly were set for dining after which bridge was played. Each place was marked with a Christmas favor. Club high scorer was Mrs. Alfred K. Leach, and Mrs. Charles Clark of Morehead City, who is in Raeford for the holidays, was visitor's high. Refreshments were served during the evening. Members exchanged Christmas gifts, and everyone picked a seashell Christmas orna ? ment from a white sprayed tree. Guests were Mrs. Charles Clark, Mrs. Berder Niven, Mrs. Wyatt Upchurch, Mrs. John Harris, Mrs. June Johnson, Mrs. Jeff Davis, 4 Mrs. Marie C. Brown, and Mrs. Crawford Thomas, Jr. Couples' Bridge Mr. and Mrs. George Ashley entertained members of their couples' bridge club on Saturday evening. After dining at the Cap tain'^ Place, bridge was played at the Ashley's home. Dessert was served between pro gressions. Snacks, Coke, and Rus sian tea were also enjoyed during the evening. High score prizes were awarded to Mrs. Julian King, ladies' high, and to Ricky English, men's high. W -~+ ? -JHHI Sharon Lee Conoly Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Earl Franklin Conoly announce the engagement of their daughter, Sharon Lee, to John Edward Nichols, son of Mrs. Ruby W. Nichols of Raeford and the late Lloyd Edward Nichols. The wedding will take place on February 26 at the Raeford Presby terian Church. The bride-elect, a graduate of Hoke High School, attended Sand hills Community College and is presently employed at Willcox and McFadyen, Attorneys at Law. The prospective bridegroom, a graduate of Hoke High School, is presently employed at Burlington Menswear in Raeford. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. UDC Meets The Raeford UDC Chapter met December 9 at the home of Mrs. Ethel Monroe. Co-hostess was Mrs. Walta Bostic. The program, "Follow the Feathers ' -- a tribute to JEB Stuart -? was given by Mrs. Margaret McMahan of Fayetteville. The story of "Dixie" was given and read by Misses Josephine Hall and Isabel McFadyen. The annual bazaar auction sale, which is the money project of the chapter, was held. Each member carried Christmas gifts to be distri buted at the UDC home in Fayette ville. During the social hour, refresh ments were served by the hostesses. Kinlaw, Jeweler MAIN STREET Home Life Dept Has Annual Christmas Dinner The Home Life Dept. of the Woman's Club had their annual Christmas dinner with their hus bands as guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.A. Maxwell. Mrs. Tommy Macks was co-hostess. Guests were served buffet-style and seated at the dining room table and at small tables in the den and kitchen. The dining table was covered with a green linen cloth with net overlay and centered with a green, white and gold arrangement. The color scheme of green, white, and gold was used throughout the living and dining rooms. A brief business meeting and social hour followed the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. W.K. Morgan. Mark and Melynie, spent last weekend in Asheboro with Mr. and Mrs. Larry Phillips and Brad. Sandhills Christian Woman's Club To Meet Dec 21 The Sandhills Christian Woman's Club will meet Wednes day. December 21 at the Country Club of North Carolina at 11:30 a.m. The special feature will be presented by Sue Carrick of Star. She will demonstrate how to wrap Christmas packages uniquely and inexpensively. Special music will be provided by the Children's Choir of Grace Christian School of Sanford. The featured speaker will be Mr. Max Rice from Traveler's Rest. South Carolina. Mr. Rice is direc tor of Look-Up Lodge and Camp, a facility of lay Christian Association. He is the author of two books. The Christian Woman's Club is a National Association of interde nominational women which meets for luncheon once a month in many of the leading cities and areas throughout this country and Canada.
