Against Red Springs Bucks Take Sweet Revenge The Bucks (got some sweet revenge Friday night. After losing 57-59 to Red Springs the previous week, on a last second jumper by James Major, the Bucks rebounded to win 75-64. The Bucks took control of the game early, as they reeled off 12 Merchant Bowling straight points before the Red Devils could get on the scoreboard. Led by Harold Thompson, with 18 of his 20 points in the first half, the Bucks took a commanding 20-point lead into intermission. Following Thompson closely was Dennis Purcell with 18 points as Earl s Holds First In the action last week in the Raeford Merchant Bowling, Earl's Electric swept four games from McMillian Grocery to open up a four game edge over the County Line Plaza. The Plaza crew split their four games with the Barber's, John's Short Shop picked up four wins from Melton's Heating and Air, Mark's Food racked up four wins from Raeford Auto, ana Airco Machine Shop stopped Hunt's Trucking three games to one. Things remain tight for the top four spots heading into the New Year. The high 200 game and high series last week went to Thad Marks. Marks had a 237 and high series of 604. Others over the 200 mark included Thomas Ham for i the Barber's with a 214, Leon Burton, a 214, for the Plaza Crew; Harrv Walters for Hunt's with a 208; Jimmy Baxley of the Melton's team had a 20b\ Donnie Dees for Airco with a 205; Alex Kelly for the Plaze Crew with a 203; James Nixon, a 203 for Hunt's; Bobby Powell for Earl's, a 200. Since we are in the Christmas season many clubs are sponsoring activities, one of which is the French Club. This year the H.H.S. French Club has been very active. At the beginning of the year the club traveled to Raleigh to attend a French concert. Recently , JV's Turn ?Back Red Springs The Hoke High Junior Varsity turned back a tough Red Springs team 46 - 45 last Friday night. Richard Blue scored 21 points for the J.V. Bucks and captured numerous rebounds. Coach Burgess said he was pleased with the poise and character the entire team showed when their offense slowed down, despite numerous good shots not falling in. "We have got to learn to keep U>ur intensity during the whole .'game and not just in the second inalf and also to score whenever we .'get the chance." : The J.V. Bucks hosted Rich '-mond County on Tuesday and !hoped to add to their 2 ? 2 record. Organize l1 meetings will be held at 3:45 .hi. at Raeford Elementary Gym tth the following schedule: Jan. 3, Girts 9 ? 12. Jan. 4, Boys 7 ? 9. Jaa. 5, Boys 10-11. Jan. 6. Boys 12 - 13. they had a "tasting" where they sampled various French foods. As their Christmas project for this year, they made stockings and stuffed them with candy and nuts. They presented the stockings to the T.M.R. class at Upchurch and sang French Christmas carols. The French Club would like to extend a "Joyful Noel" to everyone! Other clubs are sponsoring activities also. The Juniorettes are sponsoring a semi ? formal dance Thursday night at 8 o'clock at the Woodmen of the World Lodge. The dance will last until 1 o'clock. The Junior class at H.H.S. will also have a dance. On Wednesday at 8 o'clock in the MacDonald Gym. The price is two dollars per person and three dollars per couple. The dance is formal. Tne H.H.S. Chorus and Chorale went to McCain last Monday and sang at the sanitorium. The group sang selections from their Christ mas concert and they were well received. Refreshments were served afterwards. At this time I would personally like to extend a Merry Christmas to everyone. Burlington Vacation Pay Slated Some 50,000 hourly - paid employees at Burlington Industries operations in 10 states will receive vacation pay totaling $14 million this year, company officials have reported. Payments of approximately 57 million will be distributed to em ployes during the Christmas season to coincide with holiday plant closing schedules. Payments in similar amounts were made during the summer vacation period in July. Also in keeping with the holiday season, Burlington facilities are again staging Christmas parties and dinners for employees and their children -- a long-standing tradition with the company. Some 60,000 Christmas gift bags will be distributed to employee children age 12 and under. Smokty Smyat Everybody hat problem! t Hoke controlled the boards. Once again Hoke's bench proved to be its strong point. Nathan McNeiU came off the bench to pour in 12 points. The Bucks shut off the Red Devils with a determined defense and hard rebounding. Matches went to the best 3 out of 5. Hoke County Jaycees captured the opening match 15-9, 18-16, and 15-5 over the Jammers. For the Hoke Jaycees J. A. Hunt and Jerald Smith added life to the victory stretches, while the Jammers main tained super efforts from Mike McDuffie and Reggie Frahm. Southern Planning and Con struction held their winning streak high with the second 7:30 match being forfeited by Howell Drug. Howell Drug now stands at 2-1. The 8:30 matches were really entertaining as the Fuzz-Busters were defeated by the Raeford Jaycees, 16-14, 15-2, 8-15, and 15-7. Terry Tolar and Charles Wilson led the Fuzz-Busters as they struggled against the Raeford Jay cees. Robert Pecora and Wayne Mills directed the victory round as the Raeford Jaycees picked up their first win. *?*? ** The Kiwanfc Club pulled in their Season's opening victory as the Baptist Church had team interfer ences forcing a forfeit. The night's final match was collected by Raeford Four Square Church over 5-3. Action was good as both teams collected 2 wins apiece with the. deciding game in the five minute play-off. Larry Beasley and George Rockholt pushed the winners through, while Western Auto was led by Jerry Long and Charles Crowder.
