specialist with the Sandhills Mental Health Center, has been assigned to
work with children at the Hoke County Children's Center. .-1 resident ol
Rockingham, she got a B.S. degree in Speech Pathology at Appalachian
State University and her masters at East Carolina University. She will he
evaluating and designing language programs for children at the center as
well as serving as a consultant for the staff.

Girl Scout Director To Be Hired Here
A field director for the Hoke
County Girl Scouts will be hired
here in the near future. Mrs. Pat
Juby ot the girl scout council said.
In the past. Hoke County has
been served by the field director of
the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout
Council headquartered in Lum
berton. The director was only in
Raet'ord one day a week. The new
director, although she will be part -
time, will be a Hoke resident. Mrs.
Jubv said.

The Institute observed that the
death toll increased in 1977 and
19"h following a three-year decline

in traffic fatalities. Despite these
recent increases, the 1977 fatality
total is still below the 1966-1973
period when the death toll exceeded
50.000 in each year.
Thomas, local cookie chairman,
said that the local girls will now be
getting their money's worth for the
effort they put forth at cookie sale
time.
The field director's office is
located in the local library and
there is a phone number listed for
the office. Mrs. Thomas said. Now
the field-director will be much more
accessible to the local troops.
The Hoke County scouts will still
be in the Pines in Carolina Council,
although they will be a separate
unit within the council. v
