David Bruton. chair man of the North Carolina State Board of Education, will address the 1978 Hoke High graduates at commencement exercises in the Hoke High stadium at 4 p.m. June 11. Dr. Bruton is a native of Montgomery county and is practicing medicine in Southern Pines. He attended Montgom ery County public schools. Oak Ridge Military Institute, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the UNC-CH School of Medicine. He com pleted his internship at North Carolina Memorial Hospital and did further study at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Md. He has served in the United States Air Force as chief of pediatric services at Maxwell Air Force Base. Dr. Bruton holds member ship in several professional associations including the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the North Caro lina Pediatric Society and the Moore County Medical Society. He also serves as director of the United Fund of Moore County, director of the Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills, director of First Citizens Bank of Southern Pines. Chief of the Medical Staff at Moore Memo rial Hospital as well as being a member of the Visiting Com mittee and a delegate to the National Democratic Conven tion. Bruton He has served as past ? director of Moore Memorial Hospital, past director of the Sandhills Area Chamber of Commerce and he received the Jaycee Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award in 1%9. Dr. Bruton is married to the former Freida Bryant of Mon roe. and they have three children. David, 19, a student at UNC-CH; Evelyn. 17. a student at St. Mary's in Raleigh and Ann. 12, who attends Southern Pines Middle School. Remarks will also be heard from Callie V. Graham, senior class president and E.H. Oxendine. Hoke High princi pal. Presentation of awards and scholarships will be made by G. Raz Autry, superintendent of public schools. Diplomas will be presented by Oxendine, M.H. Williams. M.L. MacDonald and Mrs. Gloriq B. Williams. Adult diplomas will be pre sented by Dr. Raymond Stone, president of Sandhills Com munity College, and Mrs. Gloria Williams, directress of the adult program. Music will be provided by the Hoke High Band and the Hoke High Chorus and Chorale. The Rev. J.L. Glenn, Freedom Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, will present the invocation and benediction.
