Charlotte this past weekend to take part in the N.C. Jaycee State Officer's College. The college was developed to familiarize the local chapter officers with their duties as leaders in their hometowr. organizations. The Raeford Jaycee officers attended sessions on chapter management, legal advisement, ways and means, community development, individual development, and various othe important subjects. President of the North Carolina Jaycees, Harold Herring of Mt. Olive welcomed the Jaycee officers. Also on hand was United States Jaycee President Bob Kushton. In the first round action Rosa's Grill defeated the House of Raeford 21 ? 12. Maggie Haynes had the big stick for Rosa's with a 4 ? 6 performance while W.M. Southeriand was 3 - 4 for the House of Raeford. Hollingsworth Barber Shop was edged by the Hoke Jaycees 1 1 ? 14. Ralene McCall was 3 ? 3 for HBS while teammate Debra Pleasant went 4 ? 4. Barbara Campbell led the Jaycees with 3 ? 4 followed by P. Oxendine's 2 - 3. Wednesday, May 31, the Hoke Jaycees stopped the House of Raeford 14 ? 4 after 5 innings of play. S. Riggins hit a solo in ? the ? park homer to boost the House of Raeford effort. K. Little was 3 - 4 with an in ? the ? park homer in the second inning to spark the Jaycee attack. In the nightcap Rosa's Grill stomped Hollingsworth Barber Shop 18 -9 after 5V4 innings of play. Judy Morrison was 2 * 3 for HBS while Marion Monroe was 3 ? 4 for Rosa's Grill. The defensive effort for the teams is improving. The teams seem to be more evenly matched and competition is going to get tougher as the season progresses. Shop 0 House of Raeford 0 SEA LIFE-Mrs. Clark's fourth grade students from South Hoke School saved their money for five months for a trip to Kure Beach. While visiting there, they studied sea life and visited the Marine Resources Center. Shown in the picture at the end of the table are tour guides Vickie Price [left] and Jane Small. F ourth Grade Students Take Trip To Beach Mrs. Clark's fourth grade students from South Hoke School took a field trip to the Marine Resources Center at Kure Beach May 27. While at the center, the 35 students and four adults took a trip to the marsh to hunt for sea life. With nets, shovels and buckets in hand and dressed in old clothing, they waded in knee - deep marsh land. They found eels, snails, clams, oysters, fish, crabs, egg sacs, sea lettuce, plankton and sand dollars. They also saw cranes, pelicans and sea gulls. The children were also treated to a Walt Disney film entitled "Water Birds." They took part in a lab exercise in which each child had to identify and classify 18 different sea plants or animals. They also toured the displays and aquariums at the resources center. The group had lunch on the beach and took the ferry to Southport and back. The students had been saving money for this trip ever since January. Adults that accompanied the students were Steve McNeill, Mrs. Disco Dance A Disco Dance will be held at the Raeford National Guard Armory this Saturday, June 10, from 8:30 p.m. til 12:30. Speaks At Graduation The fourth annual commence ment exercises were held recently at Robeson Country Day School in Red Springs. Delivering the bac calaureate address on Sunday even ing, May 28, was The Reverend John Conway Ropp of Raeford. The Reverend Leroy Calder of Lumberton delivered the invocation and benediction. Graduation exercises were held on Wednesday, May 31, in the school auditorium. Following the invocation, Robert Burns NcNeill of Raeford, president of the 1978 Senior Class, delivered the Saluta tory address. Mrs. Janice Wilson and Scott Baker, members of the RCDS faculty, provided special music after which the graduation address was delivered by Dr. Campbell White McMillan, professor of ped iatrics and hematology at the Medical School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
