It was the first home game of the season, and the tans were treated to a fine display of offensive and defensive talent. The game was a shutout until the final .10 seconds. The Bucks drew first blood on a pass from Mark Wood to James Galhreth. I hen. in the second quarter. Bruce Carroll picked off a pass from Clinton quarterback Derrick Smith and scampered 45> yards to give the Bucks a 14-0 ha 1 ft i me lead. The third touchdown came on a handoff from Wood to l-lvis Pur Merchant Bowling cell, who ran six yards, slipping into one corner of the end zone. One of the weaknesses of high school football is usually the extra point conversion, but John Moses showed the fans that they indeed have a kicker this year. The line gave him good protection, and he split the uprights all three times, for a perfect effort . The Buck defense was such that Clinton put together only two good drives during the entire game, and one of those was stopped cold. If there is anything that can be said against the home team's performance last Friday, it is the number of penalties they were assessed. The first few games of the season are always a time for trial and error, and Coach John Harris and his statT seem to have put things together in fine order, coming back from a defeat at the hands of Seventy - First in the opener Clinton September I. The Bucks passed more against Clinton, completing seven of 15. and then played good conservative ball to protect their lead. Overall, last Friday's game in dicated that the Hoke High Bucks have a fine season ahead of them. They face Lakewood here this Friday night. September 15. Game time is 8 p.m. Recreation Bits The Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission is considering classes in dog obedience and bridge lessons. If you are interested in either of these programs give the Recreation office a call. With sufficient interest expressed details will be arranged and announced. Tennis Ladder A ladies* and a men's singles tennis ladder will be established on September 19. All who are interested in participating should submit their names to the Recreation office prior to 10 a.m. September 19. Senior Citizens, the Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring a Bingo Afternoon Monday. September 25. 2:30 p.m. at the Recreation office. Refreshments will be served. Disco Lessons Hoke Countv Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsoring Adult Couples Disco lessons beginning Wednesday. September 27, and continuing through November 15. Gail Conoly and Keith Marion will be the instructors for the eight week session. The cost will be S6 per couple for the 12 total hours of class. The lesson is from 7:30 - 9 p.m. each Wednesday at the J.W. Turlington School Gym. The lessons will be on a first come first served basis with an approximate 10 couple cut ? off. Check with the Recreation office in order to get your name on the list. Money will be collected the first class session. Crafts, Puppetry Classes The Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission will be sponsoring two crafts classes and one puppetry class beginning Tuesday. September 19. All classes will be held at the Recreation office from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. Crafts for ages 0 - 9 will be taught on Tuesdays, crafts 10 - up will be on Wednesdays, and the puppetry class will meet on Thursdays. Session 1 kicks off on Sept. 19 and concludes October 24. Session II will start October 31 and will finish on December 5. Contact the Recreation office to sign up or for further information.
