In District Court Local Man Sentenced On Assault Ch arge A local man was given an active sentence in Friday's session of District Court on a charge of assaulting an officer and probable |rfause was f?und to bind him over Tor action bv the grand jury on a charge of possession of controlled substance. Judge L.T. Hammond was pre siding when William Ross Morri son pleaded not guilty to the ^yharges. He was found guilty and ^sentenced to 12 months on the charge of assaulting an officer while the officer was making a lawful search of his car. The defendant gave notice of appeal. On the charge of possessing MDA. a controlled substance, probable vcause was found to bind him over to Superior Court. John Henry Ivey, Rt. I, Lumber Bridge, pleaded guilty to a charge of altering or removing a serial number from a handgun. He was sentence to 30 days, suspended for ^fwo years upon payment of a SIO fine and costs. The weapon was ordered confiscated. James Gilchrist. Rt. 1 Box 469 A, Raeford, pleaded guilty to a Charge of assault. He was sentenced to 30 days, suspended and placed jg|Pn probation for two years upon payment of costs and S86 restitu tion for John H. Harrington. James Albert Pittman, Lumber ton. was found not guilty of assault. Malachi Evans, Rt. 1 Box 168. Raeford, pleaded not guilty to a charge of assauli. He was found Wguilty and prayer for judgement was continued upon payment of costs. Cleveland McRae, Rt. 1 Box 576, Raeford, was found not guilty of assault. The prosecuting witness _ was ordered to pay costs for ^frivolous and malicious prosecu tion. Harold Junior Rouse. Robbins, pleaded guilty to carrying a con cealed weapon. He was fined $10 and costs and the weapon was ordered confiscated. Wilfredo Alicea, Camp Lejeune pleaded guilty to speeding 77 in a 55 m.p.h. zone and DUI. He was sentenced to 90 days, suspended for three years upon payment of a $ 120 tine and costs.
