Bucks To Play Red-White Game Sat A Red-and- White intersquad scrimmage will be held for the Hoke County High School varsity football squad of 1980 Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hoke High stadium. There will be no admission charge. Honorary coaches have been named for the Saturday night contest: County Schools Supt. Raz Autry for the Red team, and Dr. Riley Jordan, chairman of the Hoke County Board of Education for the white. Glenn Draughon. Hoke High's new head coach, started workouts for the 1980 season on August 1. From then through Friday, he had been holding evening sessions, 6-8 o'clock, but on Monday stepped up the practices to twice daily, 6:30-8 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Bucks have a scrimmage scheduled for August 22 at 7:30 Cm. in the Hoke Stadium with nion Pines of Moore County. Spectators will be charged SI each for admission. The varsity Bucks will open their 10-game season August 29 with F.D. Byrd on Byrd's field in Fayetteville. The Hoke junior var sity season will open against the Byrd JV at Hoke High the night of Thursday, August 28. The freshmen will open their seven-game season September 18 with Terry Sanford at Sanford's gridiron. In the regular season, all the varsity games will start at 8 p.m.. the JV games at 7:30. and the freshmen's at 4 p.m. Director of Athletics Billy Col ston advised Monday season tickets for the five varsity and Five JV games are being sold now for SI 2. He said admission at the game this season will cost S3 per person, an increase over last season's charge. He said a season ticket also will permit the ticket holder to park in the paved lot at the Gibson building for the season. The Junior Varsity will play the JV teams of the varsity's opponents on the nights before and on opposite sites: for example, the varsity will play Byrd at Byrd. and the JV will play the Byrd JV at Hoke. Flag Football, Midget Leagues Planned The Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission will be sponsoring a Men's Flag Football League, a Youth Flag League, and a Midget Tackle Football League in conjunction with the Midget Foot ball Cheerleaders this fall. The Men's League will be open to adults, ages 18 year & older, or they must have graduated from high school or must be the age equivalent. Also all participants must either live in Hoke County or work a 40 hour work week in Hoke County. The Youth Flag league is open to all boys and girls ages 7-9 years. You must turn 7 before October 1, 1980 and must turn 10 on or after April 1. 1980. The First practice session for everyone interested in the Youth Flag League will take place at Armory Park at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 16. Birth certificates are required from those that did not participate in either T-Ball or Little League. The Midget Football Program is open to all interested partieipants ages 10-12 years. You must turn before October 1, 1980 and must turn 13 on or after April 1. 1980. Also you must weigh at least 65 pounds and must not weigh more than 125 pounds. Physicals arc required from each participants before they will be allowed to practice. The opening practice will be held at Armory Park at 5:00 on Monday September 8. Birth Certi ficates are required from those that did not play either T-Ball or Little League. CHEERLEADING In conjunction with the Midget Football League, there will also be a Midget Football Cheerleading Program. All interested participants must turn 10 before October 1, 1980 and must turn 13 on or after April 1. 1980. The first practice and sign-up will take place Saturday, Septem ber 13 at 10:00 a.m. at McLauchlin Park. All participants must bring their birth certificates.
