Albert Charles McQueen, Wagram, driving under the in fluence, and exceeding a safe speed. 90 days suspended for 12 months, $150 and costs, and surrender license and not drive for .12 months. The following judgments were issued Friday in Hoke County District Court. Judge Joseph E. Dupree presided. Richard Edward Owings, Ft. Bragg, driving while license re voked, 6 months suspended for 2 years, S200 and costs, and not drive for 2 years except as provided for by law. Charles Edward Baker, Rt. 3, Raeford, trespass, pleaded not guilty, found guilty, prayer for judgment continued, costs. Ervin Lee McCain, Shawtown, assault on a female, and assault with a deadly weapon, pleaded not guilty, found guilty, 6 months suspended for 3 years, on condi tions he pay costs and not assault Frances McCain or James Edward Smith for 3 years. Robert Wallace, Rt. 2, Raeford, simple assault, pleaded not guilty, found guilty, 30 days suspended for 12 months, S50 restitution to the prosecuting witness, and costs, and not assault the prosecuting witness for 12 months. Gary Wayne Hunt, Rt. 6, Lum berton, driving under the influ ence, 90 days suspended for 12 months, SI 50 and costs, and not drive for 12 months. Lacy Calvin Morrisey, Rt. 3. In South Hoke Center Opened The night of October 13 was another giant step for Lumbee Regional Development Associa tion, Inc. This was the official opening of the South Hoke Day Care Center. The center is being housed in a community building that was built by a grant from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Depart fyment as a Community Develop ment Project. This is another project for LRDA in its continuing effort to meet the needs of Indian people. The new center is licensed to provide day care services for 60 children from birth through 5 years, and is open from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. South Hoke D.C.C. is also ^an authorized center through the state of North Carolina which makes it possible for the local Department of Social Services to place children there and will pick up the cost itself. Mistress of ceremonies was Lynneettah Jacobs, Community Development Day Care director. General Community Program of LRDA. Her comments included many thanks to all the people who Mhad a part in making available the community building for the pur pose of the day care. Elias Rogers of the Lumbee River Electric Membership Co-op Board of Directors and a member of the South Hoke community, gave a prayer of dedication for the new facility. Words of welcome were given by Earl H. Oxendine of the LRDA & Board of Directors. Oxendine re pealled the many times that he had asked the residents of Hoke County to help and they did. He remarked to the parents and guests that they should be proud of having one of the finest day care centers in this area. Frances Woods, the center di rector. and Gary Deese. the Gen eral Community Program director, introduced the center staff as well ft as LRDA staff personnel. Kenneth R. Maynor gave com pliments to the members of the staff of the new center for the tremendous job thev were doing at South Hoke. Maynor also thanked the community for letting LRDA be a part. The program that makes the day care center possible is similar to the federal programs that served the ? citizens after the Depression. Adolph Dial, chairman for LRDA Board of Directors, reminded the group that this center is possible through funds from both the state and federal governments. The center was designed to make available day care for low and medium income families. This will make it possible for mothers to work with the assurance that their children are receiving develop f mental child care. James Martin, county manager, told the group that he was glad to see the community building used for a day care center. James Hunt, vice chairman of the Hoke County commissioners, had similar re marks. The deputy director ot LKUA. Von Locklear, told the group they _had a center to be proud of. In his t travels he has seen many day care ctnters and that LRDA operates some of the best that he has seen. Refreshments were served as Miriam Oxendine and Willie L. Lowery. from the Lumbee River Native American Center for the Arts, provided music for the group. < This is the fifth day care center that LRDA is currently operating.
