HINT: When beating egg whites
for cakes, souffles and meringues,
allow eggs to come to room
temperature before beating. This
makes whites beat up faster and
hold a higher volume.
The holiday season is rapidly
approaching, and with it comes the
concern of what to give whom and
how much will it cost in dollars.
We must learn to plan purchases
and to control spending. Of course
this is easier to dream about than to
do.
To keep holiday spending in the
black get started no later than
October, and strive to have no bills
stemming from Christmas bills in
January.
To keep holiday spending in the
black I suggest the following
system. It will take lots of de
termination to be successful.
1. Resolve to get rid of habits
that contribute to overspending:
a. use of credit cards
b. last minute decisions ^
c. purchasing gifts that are too ?
expensive
2. Start now to plan your
purchases. Have a discussion with
your immediate family and make
plans. Your plans should be written
so that nothing is forgotten.
3. Make a list of things your
family members can make, services
they can perform, items you have
received that could more effectively
be used by someone else, or things _
that can be recycled. ?
4. Make a list of persons to be
remembeied with gifts during the
holiday. Then list the gift you plan
to give that person and estimate the
cost. Then make a grand total.
5. If your cash is not adequate to
meet your needs:
a. decide on less expensive gifts
b. get extra jobs to earn money
c. tighten up your total spending
6. Make a work schedule for ?
getting gifts ready on time.
7. As you make expenditures
shop for the best prices. Relax and
enjoy your Holiday season with
family and friends.
Methodist Church
Happy Hobby Harvest
Ingathering Season is with us.
In the Raeford United Methodist
Church it is called "Happy Hobby
Harvest".
For the past two years that is
exactly what it has been. It is a fun
time - the fellowship is first rate.
At the bazaar you will find all
kinds of goods. Each person's
hobby is included.
The harvest is in: - sweet
potatoes, soy beans, corn, cotton,
fireplace wood, pigs, and chickens
are included.
The Happy Harvest consists of
events on two days three weeks
apart. The annual Rummage Sale
is scheduled for all day (9:00 a.m. -
5:00 p.m.) Saturday October 25th
at Edenborough Shopping Center.
In case of rain it will be held in the
Fellowship Hall of the church.
A lunch, barbecue dinner, and
auction sale will be held November
14, a Friday. The soup and
sandwich lunch will be served in the
Fellowship Hall from 11:30 a.m.
till 1:30 p.m. The dinner of
barbecued pork and chicken will be
served in the cafeteria of Mc
Lauchlin School, which is behind
the church, from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m.
The auction sale will be held in
the Fellowship Hall, starting at
7:30 p.m. This is another op
portunity for widespread partici- J
pation. The sale will continue till
all items are sold. The public is
invited to the activities.
The men of the church tell of
great things that happen while they
are sitting around the barbecue
rack all night. The annual barbe
cue can't be beaten; it is cooked
over a fire of real hickory wood
chopped by the men.
The youth of the church parti- j
cipate by engaging in car washes
and bake sales. This year they have
been involved in a rock - a - thon in
front of the church.
