The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and with it comes the concern of what to give whom and how much will it cost in dollars. We must learn to plan purchases and to control spending. Of course this is easier to dream about than to do. To keep holiday spending in the black get started no later than October, and strive to have no bills stemming from Christmas bills in January. To keep holiday spending in the black I suggest the following system. It will take lots of de termination to be successful. 1. Resolve to get rid of habits that contribute to overspending: a. use of credit cards b. last minute decisions ^ c. purchasing gifts that are too ? expensive 2. Start now to plan your purchases. Have a discussion with your immediate family and make plans. Your plans should be written so that nothing is forgotten. 3. Make a list of things your family members can make, services they can perform, items you have received that could more effectively be used by someone else, or things _ that can be recycled. ? 4. Make a list of persons to be remembeied with gifts during the holiday. Then list the gift you plan to give that person and estimate the cost. Then make a grand total. 5. If your cash is not adequate to meet your needs: a. decide on less expensive gifts b. get extra jobs to earn money c. tighten up your total spending 6. Make a work schedule for ? getting gifts ready on time. 7. As you make expenditures shop for the best prices. Relax and enjoy your Holiday season with family and friends. The annual barbe cue can't be beaten; it is cooked over a fire of real hickory wood chopped by the men. The youth of the church parti- j cipate by engaging in car washes and bake sales.
