Area Incidents Shopliftings, Break-ins, Reported The Raeford Police Department received the following complaints in the past week. Police Chief Leonard Wiggins reported. Calvin McGalvary, 705 Saunders St., reported Monday someone stole the CB antenna from his car and bent the car's trunk. The antenna is valued at S35, and the damage to the trunk amounted to SJ50. Theodore Stewart of 1205 N. Stewart St., reported Monday a S50 battery and S20 worth of gas were stolen from his pickup truck. Sammy Crowder, 413 E. Donald son Ave., reported November 28 someone stole a S200 AM-FM eight -track tape player from his car. Macks Stores reported Novem ber 28 a juvenile took a S24.99 BB pistol. Police apprehended the juvenile and recovered the pistol. The case was turned over to juvenile authorities. Gwendolyn McBride, Rt. 3, Red Springs, reported November 29 she laid her wallet containing S192 down at the Prospect Avenue automatic laundry and went to a Library News A very welcome gift of children's Christmas books was given the library by the Jaycettes. Our supply has dwindled quite a bit since we have been leaving them on the shelves all the year. Deputy Sheriff J.L. Madden reported November 26 he found plastic bags containing brown and green vegetable matter, and a jar containing nontaxpaid whiskey in a car parked off SR 1422 near Twin Bridges in the Rockfish area. Three men he found at the car were charged with marijuana and liquor law violations and placed under $2,500 bond. Debbie Locklear. A pay check for $592.85 be longing to an Upchurch Junior High School teacher was reported November 22 stolen from the school. McKenzie recently re tired from the Raeford Plant of Burlington Industries after 28 years continuous service. McKenzie began work at the Plant on April 13, 1953, as a Melangeur tender and during his employment served as a pindrafter tender, faller bar inspector, auto leveler tender, overhauler assistant and pindrafter fixer. North Carolina Chapter, announced today that the 1981 Commerce and Industry chairman for Raeford will be Ken Koonce. The Leukemia Society of America is dedicated towards the conquering of leukemia. Proceeds from the Commerce and Industry drive will be used in research and patient-aid. At the present time the Leukemia Society of America, North Carolina Chapter, has $492,935 in research projects granted in the state of North -Carolina. These research projects are being conducted at Duke University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. The Leukemia Society of itii - ? * * - - J America is also providing financial assistance to 225 patients in the . state of North Carolina. In spite of remarkable medical advances in the last ten years, leukemia remains a Number 1 killer disease of children but it is no longer a hopeless disease. Years ago over 90% of everyone with leukemia died within six months but today the picture is much brighter for children and adults ^ due to the research that has helped in treatment and diagnosis. The funds will be used in North Carolina in research and patient aid.
