Swamp Cape Fear; Hoke JVs Lose By 2 Bucks Open Cage Season With Victory Hoke High's Bucks opened their 1981-82 basketball season success fully last week in their home gym, walloping Cape Fear 67-46. Hoke took the lead early and were never behind, leaving the court at half time with the score 33-17. Hoke's Greg Hollingsworth led the winners; scoring, contribut ing 20 points. Cape Fear's James Rhone was the game's top indivi dual scorer with 21 but was the losers' only double-digit contribu tor. Semi-Pro Baseball Turkey Shoot December 4-5 The Hoke County Semi-Pro Baseball Association is sponsoring a Turkey Shoot on December 4 and 5. at the Moose Lodge on Old 401 Business starting at 6 p.m. All proceeds of the turkey shoot will go to the baseball association. Union Pines Next For Home Varsity Hoke High's varsity, basketball team will play Union Pines at Union Pines Friday. The JVs have no game that day. Hoke's varsity and JVs meet Cape Fear's squads at Cape Fear Tuesday in return matches. They split wins November 24 in the season's openers, at Hoke High, the Buck's varsity and the Cape Fear JVs coming out on top. The Buck's varsity and JVs met Seventy-First's teams Tuesday in the Hoke gym. The results weren't available before The News-Jour nal's press time. team's opener of the 1981-82 basketball season. Hoke's Freddie McLean was the evening's best individual scorer with 22 points, followed by South View's Rafael Hernandez with 21. South View ran up an eight-point lead in the first quarter, scoring 18 points, and left the court at half time on the long end of a 35-22 score. Hoke outscored the Tigers in the last two periods. It was the Hoke Juniors' first win of the season following the opening loss the night before. Smith's freshmen. 66-34. The leading scorer for Hoke was Sheila Southerland with 30 points, followed by Lisa Smith with 22. Lisa Kershaw camc up with 8 to help the team. The team shot at the basket 69 times and made 31 for a 45 percent shooting average. The Hoke girls will play Scotland County's Ninth Graders Thursday at 4 p.m. at Scotland High. RECEIVE AWARDS -?
