The Baptist Church was filled with parents and friends from Parkton, Rex, Lumber Bridge and St. Pauls. Directing this musical were Mrs. Lynne Maxwell. Mrs. Mavis Foster and Mrs. Imogene Horton. Well, not yet. but coming up in Southern Pines on December 13. the Chorus, directed by Anne Freeze, will make its debut. But. don't worry, the Chorus will return, and have its home concert on December 15 at Upchurch School at 7 p.m. If you miss that, the Chorus will give a concert for the school on December 18. From the chorus was picked a special group of singers called the ensemble. The Ensemble consists of 24 members who will be singing sonjp such as "The Little Drummer Boy ' and a piece in Spanish "Ven Dulce Amado Mio." The Ensemble practices after school. The Chorus hit its last note, and it rang out. loud and clear. Mr. Watkins calmed his hands; Mrs. Freeze signaled the cut off. and the applause came tremendously. Please join the Chorus and Ensemble along with the Upchurch Drama Club and Dance Group for a Christmas celebration on Tues day December 15th at 7:00 at Upchurch School. This will be the First concert of the season featuring only the chorale groups. The students have been working very hard to prepare this concert. Saturday. December 12th. Hoke County will have a Christmas parade. Youth Council will present their sixteen beauty contestants and Miss Teenage Hoke County. Beverly Farrow. Miss Ekoh will also ride in the parade. The Hoke High Band will march and Student Government will be represented. The students look forward to the town once again having a Christ mas parade and having the oppor tunity to participate. The French Club and Spanish Club will have an International Dinner on Monday. December 14th. Guests may come by invita tion only. Members are exerting strenuous effort in order to present this dinner. The cost will be ten dollars per person, which will pay for a member and his two guests. The Health Occupation Students of America have once again been very busy. This week they are celebrating Health Occupation Week. Dec. 7-12. For each day. they will be doing some activity to benefit the teachers, students or community. On Monday they placed health related pamplets and prescription bottles of medicine (m&m's) in the teacher's boxes. Posters and bulletin boards were placed in the corridors and school. On Tuesday they're taking resi dents of the Open Arms Rest Home to Cross Creek Mall. Tuesday evening a program is planned for the HO Students, where Mrs. Cromartie. a social worker, will be discussing adoption procedures. Other activities are planned for the remaining week including the plac ing of Christmas trees in the office and rest home. Later in the month, the students are planning to go Christmas caroling. He is a manager in the Planning Department in the Dy eing Plant. During his 35 years with the company, his experiences have carried him through many of Burlington s operations including Greensboro.
