Pines, were married in a 4 p.m.
ceremony on Saturday Dec. 19.

officiated at the ceremony which
was held at Antioch Presbyterian
Church.
Mr. Joseph Fargis gave his
daughter in marriage.
Mrs. Deborah Richardson of
Aberdeen served as organist. Pre
nuptial music included songs per
formed by vocalist Anthony McMil
lan. He was also accompanied by
Richard Peterson on guitar and
Robert Hersley on violin.
The bride wore a dress of antique
satin with heirloom crochet waist
band, which was complemented by
heirloom embroidered eyelet yoke
and overskirt. Her veil was a waist
length meline attached to a beaded
coronet adorned with Christmas
holly. The bride carried an arm
bouauet of rubrium lillies and
heather.
Mrs. Robert Kuhn of Fairfax,
Va., attended her sister as matron
of honor. She wore an ecru floor
length gown with inset lace banding
and carried an arm bouquet of
rubrium lillies and heather.
The groom's niece and nephew,
Lydia Toon Fleury and Robert
Andre Fleury of Wilder, Vermont,
attended as flower-girl and ring
bearer.
A reception followed the cere
mony in the fellowship hall of
> Antioch Presbyterian Church.
Following the wedding trip to
Williamsburg, Va., the couple will
reside in West Jefferson, N.C.,
where Mr. McPhaul is employed by
Farmer's Burley Tobacco Ware
house.

Navy Medical Corps Lieutenant
Kenneth E. Hollingsworth, a 1980
graduate of the University of North
Carolina Medical School, Chapel
Hill, completed Naval Right Sur
( geon training at the Naval Aero
space Medical Institute. Pensacola,
Fl.
Hollingsworth was designated a
Naval Flight Surgeon and received
his "Wings of Gold" during grad
uation ceremonies held December
17 at the Naval Aviation Museum.

During the six-month course of
instruction, Hollingsworth received
aviation officer indoctrination, did
J actic and clinical training in avia
tion medicine, and eight weeks of
primary flight training in the
Navy's T-34C turbo-prop aircraft at

E. Hollingsworth of Columbia,

entertained Kathy Davis and her
fiance, John MacDonald, at the
Little Whale, Friday night, De
cember 18th. Thirteen friends and
relatives enjoyed Seafood platters.
Out-of-town guests was Mrs. Peggy
Kinlaw Lewis of Southern Pines.
Miss Davis was presented a corsage
upon her arrival and later the
couple received a pair of pewter
candlesticks from the host and
hostess.
The table was decorated with a
Christmas motif by Mrs. Leanna
Lester.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Monroe
visited Mr. and Mrs. Zan Monroe
in Siler City on Thursday after
noon. Lindsay and Allen Monroe
returned home with them and
stayed until Sunday while their
parents were moving to New Bern.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Monroe,
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Monroe and
William of Garner visited Mr. and
Mrs. Zan Monroe in New Bern on
Sunday.

UDC Holds
Dec. Meeting
The Raeford Chapter of the
United Daughters of the Confeder
acy held its December meeting at
the Hoke County Library. Mrs.
Lillian Wood, president, presided
and read the UDC prayer for the
devotional. The ritual, pledges,
and salutes to the flags were led by
the president.
Members were asked to remem
ber the former residents of the
UDC home and patients at the
Veteran's Hospital at Christmas
time with cards.
The program, "Captain Sally L.
Thompkins," was led by Mrs.
Marie Lee. Captain Thompkins
was the owner and operator of a
Confederate hospital in Richmond
during the war. The poem of the
month, "Dreaming in the
Trenches," was read by Miss Isabel
McFadyen.

During the social hour, refresh
ments carrying out the holiday
theme were served by the hostesses,
Mrs. Annie Thelma Harmon and
Mrs. Walta Bostic.

Lt. and Mrs. David A. Autry of
Athens, Greece announce the birth
of a son, Kevin Allen, on Saturday,
December 19.

Woman's Club
Ladies Meet
The Raeford Junior Woman's
Gub met on Dec. 15, at 7:30 at the
home of Jane Britt. The Home-Life
Department hosted the evening.
The house and table were decor
ated beautifully with a Christmas
atmosphere.
Jane Britt, club president, called
the meeting to order. The Christ
mas story was read by Betty Odom.
Business of the evening included
installation of 9 new members.
Joan Balfour, Parlimentarian of
District 9, installed the new mem
bers using as a theme "a sym
phony" and how musical pieces
work together. Each new member
was given a musical ornament by
Mrs. Balfour. The new members
include Debbie Norton, Kim Ham
let, Connie Davidson, Dante Harp,
Lejeana Hammond, Liza Roper,
Faye Lippard, Jo Ann Crawford,
and Marsha Currin. The club was
very proud of these new assets to
the club.
Other business included discus
sion of the fruit cake sales and the
successful home tour.
Also discussed was the helping of
two needy families. The junior
women are providing a wonderful
Christmas for 2 families through
donations and available funds. It's
a great feeling to share with those
less fortunate than many of us.
The evening ended with each
member exchanging gifts and deli
cious refreshments being served.
Two guests visited Alice Lancaster
and Suzanne Balfour. It was a
wonderful night.
Douglas-Pittman
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Douglas would

their daughter. Pamela L. Douglas
to Stephen Pittman of Miami.
Florida on Dec. 18. at 2:00 in
Bennettsville, S.C. The bride is
attending Hoke County High
School. The bridegroom is sta
tioned at Fort Bragg as an airborne
paratrooper.
