3 School Board Places Up For 1982
Three places on the five-member
Hoke County Board of Education
will be up for election in November.
The terms of Bill Cameron,
Walter Coley, and Robert Wright
are expiring. Wright is serving the
remainder of the term of Dr. Riley
Jordan, who resigned in February
1981 . Cameron and Coley are in the
final year of regular four-year
terms. Cameron is board chair
man.
Since board members are not
elected according to membership in
a political party, candidates do not
have to run in primaries to be
nominated before they can run in
the general elections.
The filing period for school
board candidates, however, opened
Monday and will continue through
February 1, as with candidates for
other county offices.
The other school board mem
bers. Mina Townsend and Ruth
McNair, were reelected to four-year
terms in 1980.
The other offices up for election
this year, but on a party basis, are (
those of county commissioners
James B. Hunt, John Balfour and
Mabel Riley; Register of Deeds
Delia Maynor; Clerk of Superior
Court Juanita Edmund; and Sheriff
David Barrington. All are Demo
crats.
