Boys ' Varsity Keeps Conference Lead Hoke Beats Ross in Triple Overtime Hoke High's varsity Bucks kept first place in the Southeastern 4-A Conference basketball standings the night of January 13 by defeating Reid Ross 80-76 in triple overtime. The Hoke girls also won, 48-34 but Men ? Church League Play Presbyterian Wins the Hoke Junior Varsity lost 38-37. The games were played on the Hoke Court. Freddie McLean and Greg Hol lingsworth scored 24 points each tor Hoke's boys. The victory gave The Hoke County Parks and ; Recreation Commission Men's Church Basketball League began Tournament play January 7. , The first game of the tournament [ paired Presbyterian against Pitt man Grove. Presbyterian defeated Pittman Grove 37-31. J. Wood 10 points, A. McDonald 8, M. Sutton and M. Ivey 6 points each, T. Smith 5, and K. Koonce with 2 points for Presbyterian. G. Davis 12 points, R. Shepley 6, P. Barnes 6, M. Madden 3, and B. Swan 2 for Pittman Grove. In the second game First Baptist defeated Ashley Heights 42-35. D. McGougan 13 points, L. Matthews 11, V. McGougan, and G. Culp had 6 points each. J. Jordan 4, and T. Austin had 2 for 1st Baptist. Ashley Heights leading scorers were B. Polle with 19 points, Ed Baker with 6, R. Huff with 6. and C. ! Calcutt with 4 points. I Upchurch Girls Defeat Anson 17-10 The Upchurch Lady Eagles de feated Anson 17-10 January 12 at Anson. Both teams were sluggish from the start but the Lady Eagles managed a 7-0 lead until the final minutes of the first half. A bad pass and a couple of free-throws brought the half-time score to 7-4. Anson defeated the Lady Eagles earlier in the season but never seemed to get into the game this second time around. The Lady Eagles kept the lead *" throughout the game despite the numerous turnovers. T. Hollingsworth lead Upchurch with 9 points while A. Jarman lead Anson with 4. The Eagles' Thursday game was cancelled due to the weather. The First game went to the House of Raeford over LREMC 70-47. L. Miller 25 points. W. Love 18 points and M. Powers 1 1 points were high for House of Raeford. LREMC were led by E. Chavis with 16 points, J. McCollum had 12. and R. McDuffie tossed in 10 points. The second game of the night went to the Suns over the 76ers 57-56. L. Crawford poured in 17 points, N. McNaill had 14. and E. McKoy had 9 points for the Suns. 76ers scoring attack came from K. Carpenter with 24 points. V. McDougald with 17. and P. Jordan with 9 points. As the action continued the House of Raeford defeated Hol lingsworth 61-57. C. Chandler 22 points, L. Miller 17 points and W. Love 13 helped capture the win for House of Raeford. L.
