6 Overtimes For Bucks Hoke Boys Lose, Girls Win Hoke High's varsity Bucks lost to E.E. Smith On the Smith court Friday night. 80-78, but it took six overtime periods to decide the winner. Cedric Brickey made the winning shot, a field goal, with one second left in the sixth overtime. It was Hoke's first loss in five Southeastern 4-A Conference games. Hoke's girls won, 43-38. to move I heir conference record to 5-1. In the boys' game. Hoke's Mark McLean tied the score at the end of regular time at 70 sinking a field goal as the buzzer sounded. In the first overtime John Pleasant and Eldred Blue gave the Bucks the lead sinking a free throw each, making the score 72-70 with 1 1 seconds to go in the first overtime. Smith's Kenneth Fleming tied it up after taking Kevin Leisure's rebound grab of Blue's missed Church League Basketball Presbyterian Wins T ournament The Thursday night Champion ship game paired Presbyterian and First Baptist. The game was close through all four quarters. Presbyterian gathered the win 46-40. M. Sutton scored 14 points. A. McDonald 14 points. B. Tew 8. T Smith. R. Wilcox, and J. Wood had 4 points each, and M. Ivey with 2 points for Presbyterian; and D. McGougan 10. T. Austin 8, T. McBryde and J. McGougan 7 each. P. Manning 6. and C. Hoke High cross country and track runner, won the 19-and-under age division of the Fourth annual Winter Classic Road Race held Saturday in Jacksonville. N.C. The event was sponsored by the Jacksonville Roadrunners. Hunt took first in his age group with a time ot 34:40 tor the 10K (6.2-mile) race. He also placed fifth over-all in a field of 164 runners. Four members of the 1EA Road Runners also ran in the Winter Classic one-mile race and took the top four places in that race. Greg Hollingsworth, who scored 33 points in the game, tied it at 78 with a field goal four seconds from the buzzer. The fifth was consumed by E.E. Smith's holding the ball, and Jeff Mitchell, who scored 30 in the game, tried a field goal at the buzzer but missed, sending the game into the sixth overtime. Hollingsworth was the game's top individual scorer. He led Hoke in rebounds, picking up 12. The game's leading rebounder was Smith's Brian Bullock with 17, and Mitchell, also of Smith, got 13. Terry Sanford and East Lee in that order. Taking a 60-40 victor)'. Hoke was ahead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter but after that the game was never close. The Bucks were ahead 33-20 by half time. Sheila Southerland led the Hoke scoring with 2b points, while Dela Pridgen and Lisa Smith had 14 and 12 respectively. Annie McMillian led all rebounders with 12. while Pridgen had 10. Terry Sanford never came close, scoring only 8 points in the first half while the Bucks were scoring 28. Men's League Results The Men's Basketball League sponsored by the Parks and Re creation Commission continued ac tion as the House of Raeford defeated the Mindblowers 76-51. L. Miller was high scorer for the House of Raeford with 21 points and right on his heel were D. Re veils with 20. M. Powers with 14, and C. Chandler with 12. The Mindblowers were sparked by T. Brunson with 12 points, W. Ellerbe with 11, A. Monroe with 10, and C. Melvin with 8. The final game January 18 was picked up by the All Stars as they downed LREMC 104-47. G. May nor led all scoring with 26 points, L. Southerland 22, C. Wright 15. and R. Maynor with 14 for the All Stars. C. Campbell 18 points, L. Ross 12. and W. Cobb had 5 for LREMC. As the action continued January 20, in the first game LREMC defeated the Mindblowers 76-70. J. McCollum 20 points, Ross with 20, C. Campbell 18. and L. Patterson had 15 points for LREMC. Leading scorers for the Mindblowers were A. Monroe with 20 points, W. Ellerbee with 15, and Brunson with 10 points. In the second game. House of Raeford defeated the Bullets 70-63. C. Chandler with 24 points, L. Miller with 20, and D. Revell had 13 points for House of Raeford, while F. Barnes poured in 26 points, W. Buie with 9. and L. Bratcher threw in 8 points for the Bullets. In January 21 action the first game matched the 76ers against the Mindblowers. The 76ers gathered the win over the Mindblowers 77-61. V. McDougald with 20 points. M. Brown with 14, K.
