January 27 but apparently was scared off before taking anything away. The intruder or intruders did about S10 to a screen in breaking in. David Warren. Rt. 3, Raeford, reported January 26 a $50 bicycle was stolen from his yard. William Keith Gardner, Rt. 4, Raeford. reported January 27 his .22 rifle worth $100 was stolen January 26 or 27 from his pickup truck while it was parked. Dennis Blanton has transferred to Pembroke State University from N.C.S.U. He is a junior and ma joring in Accounting. Charles D. Hopkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Hopkins, has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of Staff Sergeant. S/S Hopkins is assigned at Fort Bragg, with the 82nd Airborne Division. Misses Lib and Lois Sumner spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. J.F. McMillan. Also visiting were their son, Mr. and Mrs. J.F. McMillan, Jr. Elizabeth Ann and J.F. Ill from Wallace. Fulford was getting along good after spending a week in Moore Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sumner and Selina of Fayetteville were din ner guests of Mrs. S.E. Sumner and Mr. and Mrs. Ricky Lewis on Sunday. Steve Ammons spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.F. Ammons and sister. Miss Wanda Ammons. Steve is a student at Campbell College. On Sunday evening at 2:30 the Ladies of the Baptist Church honored Mrs. Phyllis Blanton with a baby shower. Fourteen members were present. Mrs. Blanton opened the many useful gifts. Inez Stevens, 509 Grant Ave., reported February 1 a SI 09 bicycle stolen from J.W. Turlington School. The bike was found later that day near the school. Grover Dukes of Lamont Street reported February 1 someone broke three window panes of his mobile home. Margaret Roper, 402 W. Fifth Ave., reported someone entered her apartment through an upstairs window and stole jewelry, a radio and a telephone valued at a total of $756. A 1963 Chevrolet Impala valued at $2,000 and owned by James Tracy Long was reported January 30 stolen from 207 Adams St. It was found February 1 in woods on N.C. 211 West with its tires and wheels gone. Macks Stores reported a shop lifter January 31. Garcia Rodri guez. Rt. 1, Raeford, was arrested and charged with stealing a pack age of socks and a pair of gloves worth $16.99 in all. Someone broke into H&R Block in the Raleigh Apartments Build ing. it was reported Januarv 29, and stole two calculators worth a total of SI 40, a total of $42 in checks, and $100 in cash. The A&P reported January 27 a juvenile shoplifter took a $1 box of raisins. The juvenile was appre hended and turned over to juvenile authorities. Wesley Miller Running For Board Wesley G. Miller, a Democrat, filed last week as a candidate for election as a Hoke County com missioner. He became the eighth to enter the contests for the three seats on the board of county commissioners up for election this year. All are Democrats and will run for the party's three nominations in the May 4 primary. Miller lives in Quewhiffle Town ship with his wife, the former Joy D. Lucas of Quewhiffle Township, and their children, Charissa, 14, a student at Upchurch Junior High School, and Eric, 11, a J.W. Turlington School student. Miller is a graduate of Hato Rey High School in Puerto Rico, and has attended the University of Puerto Kico in San Juan. He is a native of Cincinnati. Ohio, and has lived in Hoke County the past 14 of the 15 years he has been in North Carolina. During his military service in 1955. he was awarded a Strategic Air Command medal for military preparedness. Presently he is the owner of an income tax, bookkeeping and in surance service.
