The Rev. Gerald Weeks officiated for the ceremony, and Miss Ashley De Anne Gossett, daughter of the bride, was pianist. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. <Wesse W. Kelly of San Antonio, ^"exas and G.H. Knapp of St. Petersburg. Florida. She is the granddaughter of David A. Smith and the niece of Louise and Archie McDiarmid all of Raeford. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Brutko of Shelby. The bride was given in marriage by her step-father, Jesse W. Kelly of San Antonio, Texas, and was Attended by her daughter, Ashely ^De Anne Gossett. as maid of honor. C.A. Brutko of Shelby served as his son's best man. The families of the bridal couple hosted a reception at the home of the bride following the private ceremony. After a wedding trip to Paradise Island. Bahamas, the couple will make their home in Kings Moun tain wilh the children of the bride, - Todd and Ashley. *?/ Out of town guests included Mr. < and Mrs. Jesse W. Kelly and David A. Knapp. brother of the bride, all of San Antonio. Texas. The bride graduated from Hoke High School and attended business college in Fayettcville. She has lived in Kings Mountain for the past ten years and is employed by the Holiday Inn of Kings Mountain. The bridegroom graduated from ^Shelby Senior High School and UNC-Chapel Hill. Brutku Academy Club Sponsors Benefit During (he past tour weeks the ^Senior Beta Club of Flora Mac "lonalii Academy has sponsored a "Math-a-thon" program for St. Jude Children's Research Center. "Kunbooks" containing 200 math problems, were distributed to interested students in grades one through eight. Participants re cruited sponsors who pledged do nations based upon the number of problems the student completed. The school has raised over one thousand seven hundred dollars to send to St. Jude to further support the cancer research center. Mrs. McNeill explained that N.C. 2000 is a state-wide effort to plan for the needs of the state in the next century. We as citizens are challenged to be aware of the changes that will take place around us and to begin asking questions about how those needs can be met. Together we in Hoke County can be prepared. In a business session, members voted to give money to send a child to camp. Plans are being made for a school program on shoplifting. Members will have a White Elephant Sale in April. Hostesses Ellen Currie and Mary Lee Matherly served refreshments of a valentine motif. Education Dept. Members Hear Special Program NCFWC Education Department met Tuesday night February 2nd at the home of Mrs. Barbara Mat thews, with Mrs. Linda McLeod and Mrs. Ellen Willis as co hostesses. The chairman, Mrs. Shirley Gibson, called the meeting to order and presided over the business session. Mrs. Ellen Willis then introduced Mrs. Rhenda Cameron, coordinator of exceptional chil dren. Mrs. Cameron spoke about the programs that are being offered for the exceptional child in the Hoke County School System. She was very enthusiastic about the work that is being done, in her praise for the teachers and the results that are being seen in these programs. The hostesses served delicious pound cake, coffee, and nuts. Sandhills Women To Hear Caroline Helms The Sandhills Christian Women's Club will hold its; February meeting, at the Couetqf Club of North Carolina' on Thurs day, February 18th at 11:30 a.m. CWC is an interdenominational women's group with no member ship or dues. All are welcome. The buffet lunch is $5.50. Guest Speaker will be Caroline Helms from Greensboro, N.C. Nancy Hudson of Southern Pines will provide the Special Music. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sparks of Cussetta, Ga. visited for several days last week with Mr. Sparks' sister, Mrs. Viola Fulk and Ro land. M,V. Peele, Mike Peckham Celebrate Birthdays Mrs. M.V. Peele honored her husband and grandson Mike Peck ham of Chapel Hill with a birthday dinner at her home last Sunday. Those enjoying the day with them were Mr. and Mrs. Wade Terry of Laurinburg, Delaine Peck ham and Beth Dorton of Chapel Hill, Mr. and Mrs. David Scull, Judy and Randy, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peele and children, Steve and Leah, all of Raeford. John Hill and John Jr. of Elizabethtown joined them later in the day. She had the birthday dinner a week early because Mike's basket ball team has a game in Blacksburg Va.
