Brazil Missionaries To Speak Here 1 he Kcv. and Mrs. George Megill. Methodist missionaries to Brazil, will speak March 7 in the ^ Raeford United Methodist Church ~ sanctuary. The program will start at 7:30 p.m. The couple founded the Cordeiro Missionary Project of the First Annual Conference. Brazilian Methodist Church, three years ago. Megill is pastor. The church has 40 members and is planned as the center for >s establishing new churches in sur " rounding towns which have no Methodist churches. Megill preaches in homes once a month in three neighboring com munities in which he and his wife hope to start churches. He also teaches Bible, preaching and evan gelism in a lay pastor's school and also promotes mission giving and preaches revivals in established churches at least 10 times a year. The Rev. and Mrs. Megill have ) served 15 years in Brazil? Megill was born in Kansas and reared in Oklahoma. He and his wife (June Aigner) arc graduates of the University of Tulsa. Okla., with bachelor of arts degrees. Mrs. Megill's degree is in reli gion and social work. She graduat ed in 1949. She served as a public welfare case worker in North Carolina before entering mission ary service, and worked with the church Social Service Commission besides other areas of church life. She plays the piano for services and gives piano lessons, and teaches handicraft work to others. The proceeds front the sales of crafts work are used to help pay for the Megills' church building and par sonage. Mrs. Megill is a native of Richmond. Va. Megill earned the Master of Divinity degree at Duke University after graduating from Tulsa U.. and also did other graduate at Duke and at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. He served as pastor of several churches in North Carolina before entering missionary service in 1962. In Bra/il Megill also has served as superintendent of a children's home, a dean and teacher of a small junior-collcge-level seminary, and. for four years, as superinten dent of a Methodist district 200 to 300 miles long with 12 to 15 The Rev. George Megill churches. He also has conducted a weekly radio program. The Megills have three children; Norman. 31, David. 28, and Mar garet, 24. The Megills' home assignment started last December and will continue till April. Mikki Freeze In Model Congress Mikki Freeze, a Hoke County High School senior, was among the 1 7 high school students who repre sented North Carolina at the Seventh annual Convention 11, a model Congress which considered bills to amend the U.S. Constitu tion, held February 10-13 in Wash ington, D.C. Miss Freeze, daughter of Mrs. Oleta Lopez, was among the appli cants chosen to attend the session. The North Carolinians were among 183 students from most of the 50 states who were chosen to parti cipate. Miss Freeze said Monday the sessions were interesting and tun but work. She said they ran from about. 7:30 a.m. (ill 9:30 p.m. daily, except for breaks for lunch and dinner, and one research period kept her and others up till 4 a.m. getting information for a bill. She added that each bill to amend the Constitution was de bated pro and con. and that not a single bill succeeded in getting enacted. She said passage of a bill has been rare in the previous six sessions of the Convention. On the other hand, she indicated, this conforms with reality. The Con stitution of the United Sates has been amended only 25 times since the Constitutional Convention of I 787. Of the amendments, the first 12. making up the Bill of Rights, were added between 1787 and the final ratification in November 1 789 (at the second convention.) Douglas Mark, as sociate minister of Raeford First Presbyterian Church, will speak to the Raeford Friendship Club Tues day at Raeford United Methodist Church on St. Patrick's Day cus toms in Ireland. Main St., to a new site near Five Points and Quewhiffle. The route of the move bypassed the Raeford business district. The house was sold recently by the Carter family and has been unoccupied since the death of Robert Lee Carter about two years ago. Robert Lee Carter bought it in 1945. One of the Carters' five children who lived there is W. E. "Gene" Carter, president of The Bank of Raeford. He left in I960 to work for Waccamaw Bank & Trust Co. The elder Carter owned and operated the Auto In, a service station, at South Main and Harris A venue . across the street and on part of the present Edinborough Shopping Center property.
