Hoke Concrete Works. 220 Wil Hoke ASCS News Farmers who wish to participate in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's reduced acreage pro grams for wheat, feed grains, rice and upland cotton may sign up for the programs now. While the programs are volun tary, only farmers who participate in the program will be eligible for program benefits such as govern ment price support loans and target price protection and the farmer-owned grain reserve, accor ding to Everett Rank, ad ministrator of USDA's Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. The Hoke County ASCS office will handle the sign-up, which con tinues through April 16, Rank said. To be eligible to receive program benefits, feed grain producers must reduce their acreage planted to feed grains (barley, com, oats and sorghum) by at least 10 per cent from an established base. Rank said two bases will be set: one will include corn and sorghum and one will include barley and oats. Participants in the cotton, rice and wheat acreage reduction pro grams must reduce their acreage planted for harvest by at least 15 percent from their established acreage ba^es. Rank said the bases for these crops generally will be the higher of the 1981 crop acrcage or the average of the 1 980-8 1 crop acreages. However, he said, for farmers that have been following a definite crop rotation pattern, the base will reflect such rotation. Farmers who sign up may change their minds up to the time they report their acreage, Rank said. State Agricultural Stabiliza tion and Conservation committees will establish reporting dates for each crop, he said. USDA will issue its first signup report about March 16 and will report weekly signup progress until registration is completed. Flue-cured tobacco producers of Hoke are reminded that April 15 is the last day to lease and transfer tobacco quota. It is also the deadline for growers to designate the warehouse of their choice in which to market their crop. Once a producer has completed his desired leasing activity he is strongly urged to designate his quota as soon as possible. In addi tion to this, farmers may wish to obtain premeasurement service. There are many advantage:- in knowing the acreage of crops planted or to be planted. This service guarantees com pliance with a program if the plan ting is limited to the measured area. Incorrect certification can result in possible loss of program benefits. NC2000 Program To Be Given' Betsy A. McNeill, chairman of the Hoke County North Carolina 2000 Steering Committee and sev eral members of the committee will present a program on "Our Future begins Now," at a public meeting ot the Raeford Woman's Club Tuesday, at the Civic Center, starting at 8 p.m. The club's Education Depart ment is in charge. Char lotte Kelly, and Robert Gatlin. Harold Gillis will show a film giving an overview of the issues. Mrs. McNeill says. "We must consider what the next two decades may mean for us. our children and our communities. We are delighted to present this program to help women begin to discuss and think about the issues. "As one individual, our voices may be limited, but by joining others, we can be heard. This is a real opportunity, and 1 hope many will come."
