For 25 Years9 Federal Service Raeford Woman Honored Mrs. Evelyn S. Kelly, daughter of David A. and the late Nora B. Smith of 311 South Main Street, Raeford, has been awarded an Ar my Certificate of Appreciation and a pin for 25 years of federal service. Kelly is supervisor of the Central Appointment Section at Brooke Army Medical Center in San An tonio, Tex. She was presented her certificate and pin by Brooke Commander Brig. Gen. Tracy E. Strevey, Jr. A graduate of Hoke County High School, she began her civil service career at Womack Army Hospital, Fort Bragg, where she worked as a receptionist for eight years before initiating that hospital's first centralized appoint ment system. Kelly then worked at Tripler Ar my Medical Center in Hawaii before coming to Brooke in 1966. She established Brooke's central appointment system in July 1975 and has supervised it ever since. Dixon, son of Myrtle McCormick and stepson of James McCormick. both of Rt. 4. Box 197. Raeford. recently departed for an extensive six month deployment to the Western Pacific. He is a member of Battalion Landing Team 1/8. 34th Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU). Camp Lejeune. N.C. The 34th MAU is tasked with providing quick reaction assault forces, and the air support required for those forces. The 1.800 Marines and sailors forming the nucleus of the 34th MAU are embarked aboard ships specially designed to transport combat personnel. All are scheduled to participate in various training exercises and make port visits to several Medi terranean cities. February 25 in preparation for Revival Services at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church which will begin Monday evening March 8 at 7:30 p.m.. continuing through Friday evening. March 12. Rev. Arthur Winstead. pastor of Raeford United Metho dist Church will conduct the ser vices. The public is cordially invited and prayers are solicited for the success of the revival. Family and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hayward the past Sunday evening to share in the celebration of their daughter. Peggy Lynn's seven teenth birthday. Birthday cake and ice cream was served following a buffet dinner. She received many nice gifts and a good time was had by all. Am happy to report that Mrs. Ethel Monroe is getting along very well at this time. This reporter had a nice visit with her last week and she stated that she did not think that she would be able to get any springtime fishing in but hopes to get in some fall fishing. She also said that the fish seemed to bite better in the fall. "Miss Ethel", as most everyone call her is a true inspiration and a joy to know. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Monroe of Raeford accompanied by Mrs. Betty White of Southern Pines visited Mrs. Ethel Monroe the past Sunday afternoon. Little Jonathan McKethan spent the past weekend at home with his parents in the Galatia Community. He and his mother. Mrs. Judy McKethan visited their grand mother. great grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Monroe Sunday. It was a very special day for Jonathan as. it was his birthday. Mrs. Bess Newton of Parkton is hospitalized with u fractured leg. A Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Koonce or Raeford and Mrs. Davis Parker of the Galatia Community visited Mr. and Mrs. Herman Koonce the past Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Herman Koonce was on the sick list last week. Am happy to report that she is feeling much better this week. Mrs. Lawrence Barnard visited Mrs. Grace English last Friday^ Mrs. English reports she is really enjoying being at home and does not feel that she will "tire of retirement" anytime soon. Mrs. Louise Watson visited Mrs. Mary Long of Fayetteville the past Monday afternoon. Mrs. Wright Parker of Selma visited her . sisters. Mrs. Louise Watson and Mrs. Grace English last week. It is reported that Mrs. A.W^ Wood. Sr. is getting along very weff at this time. She is able to get around in the house much better than she could at one time. Mrs. Lawrence Barnard at tended worship service at The Manna Church in Fayetteville. with Mr. and Mrs. James Sakobie and son. Justen last Sunday evening. Mrs. Barnard attended especially for the dedication of her grandson during the service. ^ Charles Chason was admitted to Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg after becoming ill while on the job Monday. February 22. He was later transferred to Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville where he remained until Friday of last week. He seems to be doing very well at this time but has to have more tests done. Boy!! that snow sure slipped up on us didn't it?? Symphony Groups At Hoke Schools The Woodwind and Brass quintets and Spring Trio of the North Carolina Symphony will hold Discovery Programs March 12, making up for appearances called off by snow last month. The Woodwind Quintet will be at the J.W. Turlington School auditorium starting at 10:30 a.m.; and the West Hoke School library in the afternoon, starting at 12:45. From II to 11:45 a.m. Woodwind Clinic Master Classes will be held, the locations to be announced. The Brass Quintet will be at Up church Junior High School's auditorium 10:30 a.m. to 11 a. m# It will hold Brass Clinic Master Classes, locations to be an nounced. from 11 to noon. In the afternoon the quintet will be at the Hoke County High School Band Room. A concert and demonstration is scheduled for 1:19 to 2:05 p.m. The String Trio will be at the Scurlock School Library in the afternoon, with a Discovery Pro gram scheduled for 12:30 to 1 fou. kindergarten and First Grad? students; and 1:15 to 1:45 for Se cond and Third Grades students. Adult Registration March 4 Registration for the Adult High School Program will be held Thurs day. Anyone interested in enrolling is advised to come to the Hoke High School principal's office at 6:30 p.m. The program is operated jointly by the Hoke County Board of Education and Sandhills Com munity College. To enroll a person must be at least 18 and out of school at least a year, unless permission is granted by the county schools superin tendent.
