Wins advanced nine of them to the state VICA competition sche duled for April 22-24 in Charlotte. ^ From there if they win high state awards thev will have the right to compete in the national contests. The nine are Tommy Graham, Deborah Kershaw, Tom Lee, Wayne Simmons. Stenson Oxen dine, Harold Clark. Donald Jacobs, and Darrell Andrews. They were among 14 Hoke High students who won awards in the regional contests, which were held at Fayetteville Technical Institute. The categories, the positions in which the Hoke students placed. and the awards they received are: Radio and Television Electron ics: Graham, first, gold medal and certificate; Miss Kersaw, second, silver; and Jerry McMillan, third, bronze. Mechanical Drafting: Carroll Bundy. fifth, ribbon award. Electrical Trades: Lee. second, silver: and Paula English, fifth, ribbon. Carpentry: Wayne Simmons, fifth, and Tommy Bishop (didn't place but received a ribbon award). Cabinet Making: Oxendine, third, bronze; and Clark, fifth. Hoke DECA Members Win Awards Fifteen members of the Hoke High Chapter of DECA traveled to Montgomery Technical. Institue in Troy to participate in the 1982 Annual District Competitive Events Meeting for District 4-B March 3. Terri Clark was awarded a first runner-up trophy in the General Merchandising oral event and a first runner-up trophy in the over all General Merchandising Series. Avejo Woods received a second runner-up trophy in the written event for General Merchandising. Pamela McRae and Debbie Clark both received proficiency pins for their performance in the General Merchandising Series.
