cational students won awards in the
March 2 II -county Region IV
Leadership and Skill Conference of
Vocational and Industrial Clubs of
America.
Wins advanced nine of them to
the state VICA competition sche
duled for April 22-24 in Charlotte.
^ From there if they win high state
awards thev will have the right to
compete in the national contests.
The nine are Tommy Graham,
Deborah Kershaw, Tom Lee,
Wayne Simmons. Stenson Oxen
dine, Harold Clark. Donald
Jacobs, and Darrell Andrews.
They were among 14 Hoke High
students who won awards in the
regional contests, which were held
at Fayetteville Technical Institute.

Troy to participate in the 1982
Annual District Competitive Events
Meeting for District 4-B March 3.
Terri Clark was awarded a first
runner-up trophy in the General
Merchandising oral event and a
first runner-up trophy in the over
all General Merchandising Series.
Avejo Woods received a second
runner-up trophy in the written
event for General Merchandising.
Pamela McRae and Debbie Clark
both received proficiency pins for
their performance in the General
Merchandising Series.

Prayer for Home Missions.

p.m. a covered dish supper was
served in Education Building. The
pastor. Rev. Henry Foster gave an
interesting talk on a phase of the
Home Mission work.
This year our emphasis is on
Home Mission work in the cities.
Last Tuesday. Youth In Action
held their meeting at 4 p.m. The
program was a study on Mexico
and Mexican food. The group
prepared Mexican food which they
all enjoyed.
The Easter music was rehearsed.
Revival Services, sponsored
jointly by the Rex and Lumber
Bridge Presbyterian Churches will
be held at the Lumber Bridge
church, beginning at 7:30 p.m..

tinuing at the same time each
evening through Friday. March
26th.
The messages will be delivered by
the Rev. Dr. Robert F. Sloop,
retired, of Lumberton. long-time
pastor of the Lumberton Presby
terian Church.

Seminar for Home Interior and
Gifts. Inc. in Dallas. Texas. March
lst-5th. The seminar was a very
exciting and learning experience
for the 10,700 ladies who attended.
Mrs. Hunter Forbis came home
last week after spending a month
with her daughter and family. Mr.
and Mrs. Rob Schoch and Jeffrey
in Vanceboro.
Mrs. Hunter Forbis and Jeffrey
Schoch attended the 40th Wedding
Anniversary of her sister and
brother-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Clin
ton Robertson in Asheville on
February 21. 1982. Approximately
one hundred friends and relatives
were present.
Last Saturday night Mr. and
Mrs. Talmage Elliott hosted a
chicken dinner;at their home, for
friends and relatives.

country ham. grits, scrambled
eggs, biscuits, orange juice and
coffee on January 23rd in celebra
tion of the Lumber Bridge Volun

temporary assignment to the Fay
etteville Post Office and Kim
Moore, clerk from the Southern
Pines office is at Lumber Bridge
while Mrs. Dunn is away.
