TOBACCO PRODUCERS
Growers of flue-cured tobacco
are reminded that any leaf treated
with toxaphen, endrin, DDT or
TDE after being transplanted is not
eligible for price support. Local
producers when visiting the ASCS
office to pick up marketing cards
will be asked to certify if any of
these chemicals were used.
This action was deemed neces
sary by governmental officials be
cause their use threatens our export
market for tobacco. Any grower
having questions concerning ac
ceptable pesticides for use in
controlling plant pests are asked to
contact the county extension ser
vice.
APRIL 15 DEADLINE
Flue-cured tobacco producers
reminded that April 15th is the
deadline to designate; (1) ware
house(s), (2) lease and transfer
tobacco quota and (3) signup to
participate in the Four Leaf Pro
gram. We would like to encourage
tobacco producers to complete
these functions as soon as possible
in order to avoid the last minute
rush.
ACP SIGNUP
Applications for cost-share as
sistance are now being accepted for
No-till planting. Requests must be
filed prior to starting the practice
and no later than May 7, 1982.
FCIC ? ALL RISK
CROP INSURANCE
All-Risk Crop Insurance agents
are now taking applications on
spring crops. Insurance is offered
on soybeans, cotton, corn, tobacco
and grain sorghum. The Disaster
Program is no longer in effect
where All-Rish Crop Insurance is
available to the producer. You are,
therefore, encouraged to take ad
vantage of the Crop Insurance
Program.
The closing date to file appli
cation for the various crops is:
March 31 - corn and cotton;
April 20 -- tobacco; April 30 --
soybeans and grain sorghum.
For further information on the
Crop Insurance Program, contact
this office or your nearest All-Risk
Crop Insurarice Agent.
CHANGES IN
FARM OPERATION
Please advise this office of any
sale or purchase of land, changes in
farm operators or owners, changes
in names and addresses, and land
devoted to non-agricultural use.
1982 FEED GRAIN, WHEAT
AND COTTON PROGRAM: April
16 Deadline.
Producers of corn, wheat, barley,
grain sorghum, oats or uplanted
cotton which have bases established
for 1982 are strongly urged to sign
up your intentions to participate as
mmmm
soon as possible.
To participate, producers must
agree to reduce their 1982 planted
acreage of oats, corn, grain
sorghum and barley by 10 percent
and wheat and cotton by 15 percent
from the farms established base.
Producers should sign up in
order to keep their options open
until time to certify these crops.
The final decision to participate or
not in the program can be made at
the time of certification. Once the
deadline of April 16th has passed
producers will not have another
opportunity to sign up in the
program.
Program signup will continue
through April 16th.
TOBACCO GROWERS
Nonquota Leaf
Prior to the 1980 crop year, only
a small acreage of Maryland to
bacco was grown in the flue-cured
area. The production increased to
1 ,034 acres for the 1 980 crop year
and to over 1 1 ,000 acres for the
1981 crop year. Because of this
rapid increase in production of
Maryland tobacco in flue-cured
States, we wish to advise you that
new legislation implemented in the
Agriculture and Food Act of 1981 is
designed to preserve the effec
tiveness of the tobacco program by
restricting the production of to
bacco not under quota in States in
the Nation where tobacco farmers
have elected to comply with mar
keting quotas.
The new legislation requires that
any nonquota tobacco produced in
a State where quotas for any kind
of tobacco are in effect shall be
considered as a quota kind. If
marketing quotas are in effect in a
State for more than one kind of
quota tobacco, nonquota tobacco
produced in the State shall be
subject to the quota for the kind of
tobacco produced in the State
having the highest price support.
If you plan to produce nonquota
tobacco, you are encouraged to
contact the County Agricultural
Stabilization and Conservation Ser
vice (ASCS) office and discuss how
the production of nonquota to
bacco would affect your farming
operation.
PREMEASUREMENT
1982 CROPS
Premeasurement service of 1982
crops is available to producers
through the local ASCS office. This
service is offered basically in two
categories:
Measurement prior to planting
the crop; and stake and reference
after the crop has beer planted.
Measurement service rates for
Hoke County for 1982 are as
follows:
Tobacco and sled rows -- $2 per
acre; other crops and land uses ?
SI. 25 per acre; flat fee -- $5 per
farm; and minimum charge per
farm -- S20.
