HELPING PEOPLE TO LIVE WITH Ellen Willis Home Economic* Extension Agent Schedule: Wednesday, April 7, 1982, 10:00 ?.m. ? Wayside Extension Home makers Club Meeting. Thursday, April 8, 1982, 2:30 p.m. - Allendale-Antioch Extension Homemakers Club Meeting. Hint: Cabbage odor is practically eliminated if you add a piece of celery when you put it on to cook. Use outside stalk; discard celery when cabbage is done. Extension Homemakers are in volved in many activities in a years time. March 31 and April 1 twenty-four club members from Hoke and Scotland counties will be enjoying an activity, a tour of the coast. On March 31 there will be a visit to North Carolina Marine Re sources Center at Atlantic Beach where exhibits will show a closer look at marine life and the changing nature of the coast and how it affects people. Sea life will be viewed in the aquarium and some species will be viewed at close range in the feel and touch area. Historical Beaufort will be visited and enjoyed through walking tours, guided tours, visits to water front shops, flea markets and lovely views of the water. In the late afternoon a seafood meal will be enjoyed. Then to Atlantis Lodge for a peaceful night by the sea. Can't you just hear those waves roll in and feel the sea breeze in your hair. April 1, Hoke Extension Home makers will join the 800 other Homemakers from Southeastern District for their annual meeting at the armory in Morehead City. Coffee hour will feature a seafood tasting. The main speakers will be Dr. Frank Thomas and Joyce Taylor of NCSU Seafood Lab. Their topic will be "From the Sea to the Consumer." The day will end with a bus ride home. There will be no dull moments as Hoke and Scotland Extension Homemakers share ideas. This is one of the many activities of Extension Homemakers. You are invited to join a club near you and be a part of these activities of learning. Call Extension Home Economics Office at 875-2162 for further information. April 4-10 is the Week of the Young Child. Celebrate this week by doing something special for a child in your family or neighbor hood. Club News Public Affairs Dept The Public Affairs Department of the Raeford Woman's Club will meet on Tuesday, April 13, at the home of Mrs. Tom McBryde. Members are reminded to bring items for a White Elephant Sale. The date of the regular monthly meeting has been changed so as not to conflict with the Arts Festival in Hoke County. Education Dept GFWC - The Education Depart ment of the Raeford Women's Club will meet at 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, in the home of Mrs. John Balfour. The pageant will be held August 6-7, 1982 at the High Point College in High Point. Winners in each age division will receive a crown, trophy and a cash scholarship. This pageant will be a wonderful experience for many girls across the state, and will be worthwhile for the "TRIAD SO CIETY FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE". Glynda and Rhonda spent the weekend with Sgt. and Mrs. Dennis Ellis and daughters, Diana and Kristen. at Cherry Point Marine Air Base. They went especially to celebrate Diana's second birthday. Revival Evangelist Beulah Spells of Brooklyn, N.Y. will conduct a revival April 12-16 at Solid Rock Church of God. Raeford. The services will begin at 7:30 p.m. daily. J ma Junior Women Hear 'Hotline' Talk The Raeford Junior Woman's Club met on March 15 at the Hoke County Civic Center. The nominating committee hosted the evening with delicious refreshments. The club had a guest speaker, Mary Adams, from the Hoke County Health Department. She gave a talk on the success and use of the "Hotline." This line was installed a few months ago at Hoke High School. It is designed for young people with questions about various adolescent problems. Miss Adams feels that the line is very beneficial and used often. The club is very proud of this project and hopes that it will continue to be used. Jane Britt presided over the meeting. The club discussed old and new business. The club is finalizing the candv selling fund raiser and is beginning a new campaign of selling Tupper ware. It you would like a piece of tupperware. please contact a club member. The club also decided to sponsor one child lor 4-H Camp Millstone. The club is also giving $730 to the _ Exceptional Children's Program at ? Upchurch for orthopedic supplies for two children. Rose Marie Parrish. who was selected by the club for the Sally Southall Award, won in district competition and will go into the state finals. The meeting ended with thoughts about the May banquet and installation of new officers. Also, club members discussed ? the upcoming convention in Win ston-Salem in May.
