You still can at true factory outlets where you can save literally hundreds of dollars on purchases from furniture to fashions to pots and pans! These factory outlets, many of which have opened their doors only in the last few years, offer prices that are 20<7o - 80?7o off traditional retail prices because you are buying the product direct from the manufacturer. Many of these stores are located in the factory itself or in a small building nearby - you should never make a judge ment about an outlet until you've gone inside. With low overhead to help keep prices down, you'll usually find modest, unadorned stores compared to the high-priced department store or specialty shop. Often dressing room facilities are sparce, packaging can be plain or nonexis tent, services are few, and advertising is minimal. Since these outlets present you with savings of 2CWo - 80^0, plan ahead and buy for birth days, Christmas, anniversaries, etc. Unlike the large retailers, most of the clothing outlets receive new merchandise weekly. If you don't find what you're looking for on the first visit, plan to come back again soon. And don't rely on labels. A cut-out label does not necessarily indicate low quality - in fact, it can mean just the reverse. It's possible at times to find one of the latest fashions in a clothing factory outlet that is offered the same time at a much higher price in a store in one of the plush malls. First quality at the outlets can be samples, overruns, overstock, discontinued styles, or last season's goods. And irregulars can give you even greater sav ings. Also, some outlets have a "featured item of the week" and from time to time other special promotions which can save you additional money off the outlet's already low prices. What are examples of some of these tremendous savings awaiting you? One chain of 18 clothing factory outlets is the Oxford Sports wear Outlets, and at their store in Hamlet, N.C. we recently found blouses that normally retail for a whopping S30 for only S8; $40 pants for only $12; and $90 blazer jackets for only $18. This is hard to im agine, but it's fact I For the senior citizens Oxford offers a special 10*7# discount daily. Their stores are clean, well lighted, and surprisingly at tractive compared to some of the outlets we've visited. It's about time consumers are getting a break. With inflation mak ing paupers of us all, this good news about the factory outlets is a welcome change! fi 'fcoWfoa-r* an organizational ? ? March 3L 8 n.m..
