Capps Helped UNC-G To Best Season Jill Capps, a freshman forward from Raeford, helped the women's basketball team at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to its best season ever during the 1981-82 campaign. Capps, a graduate of Hoke County High School, averaged 2.9 points and 2.2 rebounds in 14 games for the Lady Spartans, who finished as runner-up in the 1982 NCAA Division III Championship tournament. Blazers Win 3 Games The Hoke County Blazers won all three baseball games they played last weekend, two of them Semi Pro League contests and the other an exhibition event. In league play, the Blazers defeated Ft. Bragg, 6-5, on Sat urday then Red Springs, 8-4, Sunday. On Monday, they downed the Seventy-First Tigers, 5-3, in the exhibition game. The Blazers are scheduled to meet Lillington Saturday at 2 p.m. in a league game on the Hoke High School field. Heart Fund Tennis Underway Here The North Carolina Heart Northwestern Bank Statewide Ten uis Tournament sponsored locally bv the Hoke Tennis Association was under way this week with the finals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the McLauchlin Park courts. A total of 38 players were entered, providing a total of $360 in entry fees which went to the Heart Fund. The progressive finals winners will advance to the statewide tournament which will be held in July in'Chapel Hill. The weekend schedule for the finals matches: Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. -- Women's "B" singles. Women's (progressive) singles, and mixed "B" doubles. 2:30 p.m. -- Junior ages 16 and younger; and 12 and younger. Sunday, all progressives: 1 p.m. - Men's singles; 35 and older men's doubles. 2:30 p.m. ? Men's doubles and women's doubles. 4p.m. -- Mixed doubles; 35 and older men's singles. Aerobic Exercise Class Opens April 27 The Parks and Recreation Com misison will be offering a six week Aerobic exercise class. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights, 7-8. April 27-June 3 at the Gibson Gym. The cost for the 12 hours of instruction will be S15 per person. Aerobic exercise is the type which steadily supplies enough oxygen to the exercising muscles for as long as the exercise is continued. Any rhythmic, repetitive, dyna mic activity which can be continued for several minutes without huffing and puffing afterwards is Aerobic. Aerobic exercise incorporates run ning with rhythm, jogging, hopping and skipping. Sue Davis will be the instructor. Members of the Olympic teams of the U.S. and Canada will be competing in the 100-mile road race on Saturday. April 24. and in a series of short criterium races in downtown Southern Pines on Sun day, April 25. The U.S. Olympic Committee has designated the Tour de Moore as the qualifying race for the South team in the National Sports Festi val to be held this summer.
