The law requires support levels for those kinds of tobacco be determined by first calculating the ratio of the average index of prices paid by farmers during calendar years 1979-81 (944) to the index average for 1959 (298). This ratio (3.17) is then multiplied by the 1959 support level for each kind of tobacco to determine the 1982 support level. In 1981, support prices were 286 percent of the 1959 prices; for 1982 support prices are 317 percent of the 1959 prices. Price support programs for to bacco are administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agri cultural Stabilization and Conser vation Service through loans to producer associations. Girl Scout Cookie Sales Hoke County Girl Scouts sold over $21,000 worth of cookies in this year's annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale, Kay Thomas, Hoke County cookie chairman, reported Friday. She said the total number of cartons sold was 40 percent greater than the number sold last year. Nearly all the 896 cases delivered to Hoke County this year were sold, she said. Mrs. Thomas said that the Scouts ordered more cookies than customers ordered, and this accounts for the fact that cookies are available for sale. Anyone who wants cookies is advised to tele phone Mrs. Thomas at 875-2366. Of the sales receipts, $18,816 was sent to the Girl Scout Council in payment for cookies the Hoke girls bought.
