Volunteers Seen Vital To 4-H
April 19-24 is National Volunteer
Week and should be a time tor
volunteers in all areas to be
recognized tor the work they have
done.
According to Alice Lancaster.
4-H agent, volunteers are vital
parts of the 4-H program. Without
the help of these volunteer leaders,
the program could not grow and
expand.
With the help of volunteer
leaders. 4-H is able to offer a
variety of learning experiences for
youth 9-19. There are a variety of
roles that 4-H volunteers play. One
type of leader is a 4-H community
club leader who meets with a 4-H
club on a regular basis and helps
them plan their programs. The
club has officers, an educational
program at each meeting, and
participates in special activities.
Another kind of leader is a 4-H
special interest leader.
These leaders share a skill or
knowledge with a group of youth
for a short period of time. The
leaders work with youth for a
minimum of six hours on one
particular subject, tor example,
sewing, rocketry, bicycle, cross
stitch. photography, etc. Other
volunteers also contribute time to
special activities such as Fashion
Revues. Talent Shows, demonstra
tions. etc.. and as judges for
various events.
As you can see, these volunteers
offer a valuable service to Hoke
County and its youth. During this
week, please take a tew minutes to
show your appreciation to volun
teers that you know. The Hoke
County 4-H program would like to
otYer a special thanks to all the
