Icesonnia Horslcy. 14, entered
the Junior Stricter Invitational Meet
Competitions and began the season
with four wins.
Raleigh and held at the NCSU
stadium on April 17.
Icesonnia placed first in the long
jump with a jump of 4.56 meters
second in the 100-meter dash with a
time of 13.3 seconds, second in the
400-meter dash with a time of 64.4
seconds, and ran second leg for the
youth relay which placed first.
She is an Eighth Grader and lives
with her parents at Rt. 3. Raeford.

While serving on the attorney
general's staff, from 1967 - 1971,
lEagles was revisor of statutes and
secretary to the North Carolina
General Statutes Commission.
Later he served as head of the
Attorney General's Legislative
Drafting Service (1970-74) and
thereafter (1974-76) lead the Spe
[ cial Prosecution's Division which
tried especially complex criminal
cases and otherwise assisted prose
cutors across North Carolina.

I its creation in 1969. The Com
mission, appointed by North Caro

nal law reform group which has
prepared revisions of criminal pro
cedure law adopted in 1975 and in

before the N.C. Court of Appeals

argued for the State in the 4th
Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in
Richmond and in the supreme
Court of the United States.
Bom in Asheville, Eagles, 42,
was reared and educated in Sara
toga Township in Wilson County.
He attended the public schools of
Prison County and Gordon Mili
tary College in Barnesville, Ga.
A graduate of Wake Forest
University in 1961 and the Wake
Forest University School of Law in
1964, Eagles then served for three
years active duty as a judge
advocate in the U.S. Air Force in
Goose Bay, Labrador, and Wash
ington, D.C. He currently serves in
the U.S. Air Force Reserve as a It.

Eagles has served as a member of
the N.C. State Bar's Legislative
Committee, the N.C. Bar Associa

and Procedure. He now serves as
Treasurer of the Criminal Law
Section of the N.C. Bar Associa

He has been since 1969 one of
North Carolina's members of the
National Conference of Commis
sioner's on Uniform State Laws. He
is now vice chairman of the
national legislative committee of
the uniform laws conference and
has been a member of several
drafting committees including the
committee on the Uniform Extra
dition and Rendition Act, the
Committee on Review committee
acts and the Review committee on
the Uniform Rules of Criminal
procedure.
In 1975, he was selected a
member of the American Law
Institute.
Eagles has been active in the
work of his church, serving as
deacon, elder and in 1980 and 1981
as chairman of the Official Board
of Hillyer Memorial Christian
Church. He is a former member
and officer of the Raleigh Jaycees
and is now a member and com
mittee chairman of the Kiwanis
Club of Raleigh. He has been a
member of the Board of Wake
County Women's Aid, the Board of
the Wake County Chapter of the
N.C. Symphony Society, and the
Board of the Wake County Demo
cratic Men .
He has served the Democratic
Party as a precinct chairman and
vice chairman and as a member of
the Senatorial District Nominating
committee for the Wake - Harnett -
Lee County Senatorial District.
He lives with his wtfle, Rachel
Phillips Eagles, and their two
daughters, Virginia, 12 and Mar
garet, 8, at 5005 Glen Forest Drive
in Raleigh.
Eagles stated that he would work
to establish a campaign organi
zation in each of the state's judicial
districts.
He said, "I believe that service
on the second highest court of our
state would be a high honor and a
great opportunity for public ser
vice. My experience is varied. 1
have been an advocate in the
appellate courts including the
Supreme Court of the United
States. 1 have served as a special
prosecutor and as a defense lawyer
in the trial courts of our state.
"Additionally I have been a
draftsman and advocate before the
General Assembly and its legis
lative committees."

Milton M. Cutnmings
Milton M. Cumniings joined the
management team at the Raeford
Plant on April 13 as a manufac
turing trainee.
He is a 1982 graduate of Elon
College where he received his B.A.
degree, majoring in history and
social science, minoring in public
administration. He served as
manager of the football team and
worked part time in the town office
in Gibsonville.
He enjoys working with youth
and is currently serving as coun
selor of the Youth Recreation
Program in his community.
Cummings is a native of Pem
broke and is commuting until
arrangements for suitable housing
can be arranged.
He is single and enjoys all
outdoor sports and reading.
4-H Club
A 4-H Club is in the process of
being organized in the Ashley
Heights Community.
An organizational meeting will

Men's Softball
Hoke County Parks and Recreation Commission is sponsor
ing a Men's Softball league for all interested men ages 16-up. If
you are interested in either submitting a team in the league or
just playing yourself contact the Parks and Recreation office
5-5603. The season is set to start April 27 at Armory Park. The
deadline for paying your team's entry fee is Tuesday, April 20, 5
p.m., at the Parks and Recreation office.
T-ball To Start
All boys and girls interested in playing T-League baseball this
summer should meet at the J.W. Turlington School field on
Saturday, May 15 at the following times: 7 year olds at 1 p.m., 8
year olds at 2 p.m. and 9 year olds at 3 p.m.
To be eligible for T-ball all players must turn 7 before August
1, 1982, and must turn 10 on or after August 1, 1982. Birth cer
tificates are required if you did not play T-ball last summer and
must be checked at the time you register.
It's Cleanup
Time In N.C.
April 19-24 is the time to begin to
clean up. This period was set for all
of North Carolina to clean in front
of the house and a little further.

you know there is a real need to
clean up. Work as an individual
