HOURS 11 -5 BOTH DAYS The Rockfish 4-H Club cleaned up the roadsides of the five roads leading into Rockfish on Saturday, April 24. The club selected this as a com-' munity service project in obser vance of Clean Up Litter Week in North Carolina April 19-24. The youth felt that by picking up trash and garbage along the highway, they could help make North Carolina and their com munity a more beautiful place t.> live. The Rockfish Extension Homemakers helped sponsor the group by providing litter bags, morning refreshments and lunch. The youth who participated were: John W. O'Tuel, Dayne Bundy, Andrei Dood, Patricia Jackson, Stephanie Drotar, Gerald Bundy Leslie Tatum, Karen Farmer, Vanessa Campbell, Mark Camp bell, Mark Miller, Patrick C. Miller, Troy Labombard, Frank R. Wright, Anna Kokoruda, Tim my Wilcox, Frank A. Wright. The adult volunteers who work ed with the youth during the pro ject were James Culp, David Banas, Sandy Drotar, Norma Jean Campbell, Stephen Kokoruda, and Tommy Kokoruda. Stephen Kokoruda finished a truck, and Tommy Kokoruda drove it to collect the trash. Malcolm K. Sessoms, Sr. M.K. Sessoms Dies At 60 Malcolm K. (Make) Sessoms, Sr., 60, of North Main Street, Raeford, died Monday. He was the founder of Raeford Plumbing and Heating Co. ot Raeford and operated the com pany from its beginning in 1955 till he retired in 1978. The funeral was to be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. in First Bap tist Church of Raeford by the Rev. W.H. Ginn and the Rev. Billy Beaver, with burial in Raeford Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lucille Teal Sessoms; his sons, M.K. Sessoms, Jr., of Raeford, Tim Sessoms of Wilmore, Ky., Ronald Edward Sessoms of Mt. Airy, and William T. Sessoms of Bryan, O.; his sisters, Mrs. Flora Crowley and Mrs. Bessie Davis of Raeford; and eight grandchildren. Crumpler Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Paroles Commissioner Addresses MBU Banquet The Hoke County Missionary Baptist Union held its first Spring Banquet Friday at Gibson Cafeteria. The guest speaker was Dr. J.J. Johnson, pastor of Fairmont Mis sionary Baptist Church. Dr. Johnson also serves as N.C. state parents commissioner. The theme, "Leadership Accor ding to God's Will," was used as his subject. In the message Dr. Johnson challenged leaders to take a positive stand on issues and to help make this world a better place in which to live. He stated, "Man messed up God's world, and it's man's responsibility to straighten it out." In essence he stated that the world's problems will not be solv ed until problems have been solved in the home, church and communi ty. He emphasized the importance of Christians having enough guts to face issues and not shift respon sibility to someone else, to be able to negotiate, and, above all, to be able to share. He said that when things aren't right, Christians should be able to work to make them right and con cluded by reading one of his writings, "The Autopsy of a Dead Church." Mrs. Nellie Flowers served as presiding officer. Kev. J.W. Gorham introduced Dr. Johnson, and Rev. James Kel ly responded after the message. Several of Hoke County's leading citizens appeared on the program. Solos were sung by Russell McAllister 111 and dinner music was provided by Dr. Willis McNeire. Special guests were recognized by Mrs. patricia McKellers, and in cluded several elected county and city officials as well as candidates for public office. Guests from out of town includ ed Rev. Wilson Terry, mayor pro tern of Red Springs, Rev. Sidney Lory, candidate for the House of Represetatives, and AJanice Gerold, Chairman, Cumberland County Human Relations Ad visory Commission. The warmth created by this fellowship was apparent among those in attendance. Mrs. Annie Y. McKennon is president of the County Union, which consists of six missionary Baptist Churches; Buffalo Springs, Mt.
