Mr. And Mrs. Floyd Celebrate
Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Floyd were
honored with a fiftieth wedding
anniversary celebration on Sunday,
April 25, from three until five
o'clock in the afternoon in the
Fellowship Hall of the Raeford
United Methodist Church. The
occasion was hosted by their chil
dren and families: Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Floyd of Goldsboro, Mr. and
Mrs. Billy Floyd of Rose Hill, Mrs.
?Iune Stanley of Fayetteville, and
Ronald Floyd of Lumberton.
Mr. and Mrs. Avery Connell
greeted guests, and goodbyes were
said by Mr. and Mrs. William
McDonald. Mrs. Jackie Williams
attended the guest register. Mrs.
Vardell Hedgpeth and Mrs. Man
anna McLean served cake. Punch
was poured by Mrs. Leonard
Wiggins and Mrs. David Hodgin.
^Mrs. Doris Floyd also assisted in
serving.
Tea girls were the grand
daughters of the honored couple,
Wendy Floyd of Rose Hill, Sharon
Floyd of UNC-Wilmington, Helen
Floyd of ECU, Greenville, and
Terry McKoy of New York City.
Megan McFadyen also assisted as a
tea girl.
An orchid corsage was presented

Mr. and Mrs. Ebb Barrington of
Pittsboro, spent Sunday with his
mother, Mrs. Helen S. Barrington.
They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Byrd.
'Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Phillips of
Raleigh, visited his mother. Mrs.
W.C. Phillips on Sunday.

beautifully decoratco with potted
mums, arrangements of mixed
spring flowers, and ferns. A
candelabra arrangement of yellow
roses and mixed flowers centered
the refreshment table.

Miss Linda Mercer of Chapel
Hill and Mr. Ted Davis of Raleigh,
who will be married on Sunday,
May 23 were honored Saturday
evening at a dinner party in the
John Balfour home in Lumber
Bridge.
Guests were invited into the
dining room to serve themselves
from a delicious buffet of water
chestnut chicken salad, ham,
creamed peas, baked potatoes
wrapped in onion rings, stuffed
pears, reish and lemon tarts.
The hostess then invited guests
into the glass room where places
were set for twenty four at tables
covered with white cloths centered
with arrangements of Iris, Azaleas
and Lillies of the Valley. "Hiey were
served homemade breads and bev
erages of their choice.
Miss Mercer was given a corsage
and the couple elect received a gift
of silver.
Hosts were Mr. and Mrs. John
Balfour, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. John
Balfour, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. R.L.

Miss Linda Mercer, May bride
elect of Ted Davis, was honored
with a brunch in the City Room in
Lumberton on Saturday, May 1.
Hostesses for the occasion were
Mesdames Frank Boyette, L.L.
Cottrell, Kenneth Davis, Billy Mc
Master and Floyd Thornton.
Upon arrival the bride-elect and
her mother, Mrs. N.P. Mercer,
were presented corsages of white
glameilias. Punch was served as the
guests arrived. Following the social
period, the guests were invited into
the dining room for the buffet meal
of fruit, ham, sausage casserole,
hashed brown potatoes, scrambled
eggs, blueberry muffins, biscuits
and accompaniments.
The bride-elect's table was
graced with an arrangement of
pink and white snapdragons, car
nations and fruit. The auxiliary
tables featured arrangements of
fruit.
The hostesses' gift to Miss
Mercer was a platter in her chosen
stonewall pattern.

Earns Diploma
Job Corps member Tony
Graham, of Rt. 3. Box 202,
Raeford, was awarded his General
Equivalency High School Diploma
at Earle C. Clements Job Corps
Center in special award ceremonies
on April 20. The center is in
Morganfield, Ky.
The GED diploma is earned by
students only after successful com
pletion of a wide range of academic
studies and after passing a written
test administered at the University
of Kentucky - Henderson Com
munity College.
Graham is completing studies in
landscape/nursery.

on Thursday. April 29th in the
home of Mrs. McRae Simmons of
Elizabethtown.
A corsage of pink rosebuds was
presented to the bride-elect upon

After the gifts were opened and
displayed, the guests were served
strawberry parfait, wedding
cookies, nuts and iced drinks.
Miss Coker was remembered
with placemats and matching
napkins by the hostess.

broidered linen cloth and centered
with a silk floral arrangement. The
refreshments consisted of lemon
squares, butterscotch brownies,
cheese biscuits, chicken salad
sandwiches, ham biscuits, sausage
pinwheels and other party deli
cacies.
The hostesses remembered Miss
Coker with gifts of china and
crystal in her chosen patterns.

cclebrate its sixtieth anniversary at
its monthly meeting to be held on
Tuesday. May 11. at 7:00 p.m. in
the Fellowship Hall of the Pres
byterian Church. A salad dinner
will be enjoyed by members and
their guests. The past presidents of
the club will be honored on this
occasion.
