A man sat smiling broadly and
nodding his head as his Sunday
school teacher read from the Rook
ot Revelation. At last, every eye in
the class turned to him, he ex
plained: "Wonderful! Wonderful'
Wonderful! It makes life worth
while for me to know that in the
end. they'll all get what's coming to
them! 6
In part, at least, his reaction is
understandable. For the Book of
Revelation does assure us that
ultimately the world will experience
the judgment of God and the
picture painted by John is awesome
to say the least. But the smiling,
nodding man missed the most
important meanings of Revelation's
message.
For one thing, John's Revelation

ultimately come to all of us To
ook eagerly for Judgment Day so

tion. Everything and everyone will
fall under God s judgment. True
John reminds us that the Judgment
will include the "kings of the
earth, those wielders of seemingly
unlimited temporal power. They

Hitler, Stalin, etc. Those who in
this world have a monopoly on the

But so will we! And when that
J"d8ment comes upon us. it will be

indicate where we will stand in the
Judgment of God was for others, so
ChHstians tend to forget none are

beast to be captured.
There is a second image in John's
Revelation. Not only will there be a
great Judgment, but there will also
be a great Redemption. "Come,
gather ^ for the great supper of
God... (19:17). First the Judg
ment, then the Redemption. The
plan and purpose of God do not
end with the righteousness of God's
Wrai!^' i*5111 healing power
of his love. Thus the purpose of
judgment is not retribution but
redemption.
There are many times in our lives
when, evil and injustice seem to
prevail, and we need to be re
minded that at the ultimate and we
will experience justice. And beyond
the justice there will be love.

Read Mark 10: 46-S2
Was Jesus being facetious when
He asked the blind man, "What do
you want me to do for you?" After
all, here was a man who was forced
to beg for a living because he could
not see to work. Wasn't it obvious
to Jesus why the blind man had to
come to Him?
Have you ever said, "Why should
1 pray? If God wants me to have
something, God will give it to me.
If God chooses to heal me, I will be
healed." But Jesus' question to the
blind man tells us that asking is
usually one requirement for receiv
ing. Jesus asked the blind man,
"What do you want?" because
Jesus wanted to know if the man
truly desired to have his blindness
healed. The man's answer let Jesus
know that he not only wanted to be
healed but was eager to receive
Jesus' help.
Our prayers tell God not only
what we need but also that we are
ready to receive. Our expessed
desire is a vital part in releasing the
blessings of Christ into our lives.
Then--and now!
PRAYER: Giver of all good gifts,
as Your ears are open to our cries,
may our hands and hearts be open
to receive Your abundant gifts of
love. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Asking for God's help is a
neccssary step toward receiving it.
