Men's Softball League In Tuesday night action May 1 1 , the first game we saw Beasley Body Shop defeat Ephesus A's 18-2. Leading batters for Beasley's were C. Campbell 2-2, B. Locklear 2-2, H. Thompson 3-4 with one home run, G. Rockholt 2-3, S. Davis, M. Sutton, and L. Huffman were 2-4. Ephesus A's were led by H. Harris 1-1. D. Daniels 1-2. R. Davis 1-2, D. Jackson 1-2 and G. Jackson 1-2. In the second game Jones lnter cable slipped by Raeford Mer chants 4-1. Jones Intercable's lead ing batters were L. Chason 1-1. a fifth inning home run. L. McLean 2-3. and W.A. Johnson 2-3. Rae ford Merchant's leading hitters were B. Posey 2-3. J. Henley 1-3, and D. Allen 1-2. In the third game Hard Ac Heavy scored Hollingsworth Barbers 13-8. Hard & Heavy scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to capture the victory. Leading batters for Hard & Heavy were R. McRae 2-2 with one home run, M. McDougald 3-4. N. Singletary 2-3. and R. Leggett 2-4. In Thursday night action, the first game matched Hollingsworth Barbers against Raeford Mer chants. Hollingsworth Barbers de feated the Merchants 17-2. Barbers leading batters were J. Carthens 3-3. J. Davis 3-4. L. McDonald 2-3. and A. Thomas 2-4 with one home run. Merchants were led bv D. McNeill 2-2 with one home run. R. Frahm 1-2. and A. Posey 1-2. In the second game, Jones Intercable defeated Ephesus A's 14-3. F.. Daniels 3-3 with two home runs. M. Lewis 3-3, D. McNeill 2-3. W.A. Johnson 2-3, and W. Johnson 2-3 were the leading batters for Jones Intercable. Ephe sus A's were led by C. Godbolt 1-2. B. Norton 1-2. D. Daniels 1-2. and D. Clark 1-3. In the last game, the All Stars defeated Beasley Body Shop 11-6. All Stars were led by M. Brown 2-4, D. Huff 2-4. and P. Miles 2-4. Beasley 's leading batters were H. Thompson 1-3, C. FIRST TROPHY Darren Harden competed Sunday in his very first organized bicycle race Sunday, the Capital City Bicycle Motocross in Raleigh, and came home with that trophy he is holding. He won it for finishing second in the Novice Class for 15-year-olds. He is a Ninth Grader at Hoke High and the son of Juanita and Delton Harden of Rt. 4. Box 448. Raeford. Horsley Wins 3 In Cameron Meet The past weekend provided an other opportunity for Icesonnia Horsley to prove her ability to perform well in track and field competitions. The meet was held at the Union Pines High School Stadium, Cameron, N.C. with Sandhill Track Club serving as host. Miss Horsley placed first in three individual events. In the 100-meter dash she finished in 12.5 seconds; in the 400-meter dash she finished in 64.32 seconds; and in the long jump she jumped 5.17 meters. She ran anchor leg for a 4x100 relay team which tied for first place. Since there was no video tape the Sandhill Team agreed to take second place in as much as it was hosting the meet. For the first time, Icesonnia's 8-year-old sister Cartrette tried in the competitions. She placed fourth in the one-mile race walk and in the bantam 100-meter dash. STATE ART HONORS - Linda Sizemore, a Hoke County High School senior, won a first -place blue ribbon and glass plate, and a red [second place ] and gold [ third place J ribbons for her art in the competition during the State con vention of the National Honor Society held at Wingate College last weekend. She won first place for her tempera, second place for colored-pencils art. and third for tempera. She is holding the gold ribbon. The others are taped to the wall just for the picture taking.
