iFunds For Baby's [Medical Expenses Two-month-old Timothy Boyd |Pittnian has been having treatment 'for kidney trouble ever since he was bom, and friends of his family are trying to raise money to help pay the high medical and hospital expenses. The child is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Pittman of Ponderosa Trailer Court, Rock fish Road. Patty Price, who is acting as treasurer for the money-raising ef fort, said Friday, donations may 'be mailed to her at P.O. Box 1004, Raeford and she may be called at 875-3339. She said that, because of Timothy's condition and treat ment, the baby's father works only irregularly and Mrs. Pittman is on a two-months personal leave of <4-H Special Looking for some fun. exciting, and worthwhile activities to till up your summer? The Hoke County 4-H program is offering several workshops for youth 9-19 this summer. The charge for each varies according to materials used. The age and num ber in each class is also limited. If vou are interested in participating fin a class, you must preregister by calling our office at 875-2162. You should preregister at least one week prior to the class, but registration will be taken on a first come first-serve basis. If a class is full when you call, we will put your name on a waiting list. Payment for the classes will be done at the first meeting. All classes meet at dif ferent times and places, so please read through the sheet with your ^parents and have them call and register you. The schedule for the absence without pay from her job at Fabergc, Inc., to help take care of the baby. Timothy was born with an enlarged kidney, Price said, and first went to the hospital ? North Carolina Memorial in Chapel Hill -- for treatment. Then he went at other times for checkups, and on June 2 he underwent bypass surgery. He was still in the hospital Friday, on a dialysis machine, which serves as an artificial kidney to help remove a body's poisonous wastes. The friends are planning a bake sale to help raise more money. The bake sale will be held Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of Cato's on Main Street in downtown Raeford. Workshops near future follows. The rest of the schedule will be published next week. First Aid and CPR - open to 13-19 year olds - June 21, 23, 25, 28, 30, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Hoke County Library. Learn first aid and CPR techniques under the guidance of qualified instructors. Be prepared for an emergency! Registration fee 50 cents. Instructors from Hoke Am bulance Service. Basket Weaving - open to ages 12-19 years - June 15, 22, 29, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hoke County Library. Maximum number in class - 10. Registration fee $3.50 (this will cover materials for making one basket). Students need to bring: ruler, scissors, 6 clothes pins. There was a parents group camping meeting held in the Hoke County Library Monday May 24. urpose of the meeting was to brief the parents and girls on the rules of activities for camping. Tuesday, May 25 the Rockfish Brownie Troop and Junior Troop had a combined meeting and shared the program. The major purpose of the meeting was to introduce Junior activity to the Brownies. The Juniors earned their Junior Aid Badge through teaching the activity to the Brownies who will be flying up" to Juniors later in the year. The Brownies entertained the group with a puppet show with puppets they had made and also reI^ition of "Rapunzel" and The Three Bears." After the program, games were played and refreshments were served. Area Incidents Purses Lost; Counterfeit Sis The following reports were filed recently at the Hoke County Sheriff's Department. Two women reported losing pocket books at different times and places. Beatrice Nash of Rt. 4, Box 153, Raeford, reported her hand bag dropped June 1 while she was getting into her car at Jackson's FMA on Rockfish Road. The bag contained $28 in cash, a $35 gold watch, and Social Security, Medicare, and credit cards, the lat ter from J.C. Penney and Sears and her driver's license. Mrs. Nash said whoever finds the purse can keep the cash but asks that the other things be returned to her. Dorothy McNeill, Rt. 4, Raeford, Patterson Mobile Home Park, reported her bag fell from her car when one of the car's doors flew open as she was driving on the U.S. 401 bypass Sunday. She said the bag contained $198 worth of food stamps and $6 in cash. Raeford Police Chief Leonard Wiggins reported the police department received the following recently. The Pantry on East Central Avenue reported June 1 the larceny of a 51.39 bottle of wine. James T. Floyd of P.O. Box 468, Raeford, was charged. Geraldine Daniels, Rt. 1, Box 133 B, Raeford, reported June 2 she bought a $250 money order at the Post Office June 2, and while she was addressing ?n envelope at a table, the money order disap peared. Someone got $10 worth of gas at Bill's Car Wash on U.S. 401 bypass during the night of June 8 with 10 counterfeit $1 bills put in the cash machine.
